the Travelling Willburys( spelt with a y ) were formed by George Harrison of the Beatles fame in it was himself, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn they did some great music together sharing the lead vocals around amongst them selves
this was when Roy Orbison released two new great songs on the charts before he died of a heart attack in the 80,s one was Youve Got It , and California Blue he did others but not as good Wilburys had a couple of great ones on the charts but i just can,t think of the two at the moment that did well

Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison. Well, Roy died after the first album, but he was an original member.

Ah, now, this is a very interesting question....

The Travelling Willberries were effectively formed by George Harrison, who got the band members together for the first time on a B-side he recorded.

The main contributors were:
George Harrison
Roy Orbison
Tom Petty
Jeff Lynn

One interesting fact is that Del Shannon was at one point rumoured to join them. However, he inconvenienced his prospective bandmates by committing suicide before he took up his position.
