For the past two weeks, I have been waking up around 3:30 4am, EVERY night. First, i knew it was caused to the pain i was experiencing in my "breasts", but now, its for no reason, not because i have to go to the bathroom, not because of heartburn, nothing, just random. Is it my hormones? I'm only 5 weeks prego. It's very difficult because I'm exhausted when I get home from work, so i go to bed around 9pm, you think it could be i'm getting enough sleep?

i went through the same thing & still can't sleep late. saturday i woke up @ 630 a.m. wide awake! i believe this insomnia stage started before my positive hpt. i'm 20 weeks now & i'm sleeping better through the night. maybe it's our bodies' way of getting us used to the fact that we are going to be getting up all hours of the night when the baby gets here! congrats & good luck!

I wouldn't call it a symptom but yes it does happen when you're pregnant, usually later like around 32-36 weeks when it's more difficult to get comfortable to sleep. I would try taking a small nap during your break while you're at work. I used to do that and it helped a lot... even if you just find a quiet spot (like ur car) and close ur eyes with some music on, it'll help you relax. It's hard trying to adjust to being pregnant with everything in your body changing, but it should get easier. And make sure to take your vitamins, it'll give you more energy during the day then when time comes to sleep you'll be so tired you'll sleep all night.

I had this early in my pregnancy as well. I'd be awake for two houers before I'd settle down again. I guess it didn't help that I would go into the living room (so as not to disturb my husband who had to be up in the morning) and watch TV. I didn't worry too much about losing sleep, as I'm a housewife and my husband was cool with my chilling during the day to recooperate and do the best for the baby.

Then, last night for the first time in two or three months, I was awake for two hours. It didn't help that I felt incredibly hungry and couldn't eat, as I had my gestational diabetes test this morning. Not only was my hunger keeping me awake, I think, but knowing that I couldn't eat for several hours didn't help and worrying what that could be doing to the baby.... Had I not accidently picked up my husband's cell, I would have taken myself out for breakfast. Eh. A chocolate soy milk and strawberry smoothie worked even better since the liquid will digest better and get to the baby quicker.

I digress.

I had this problem with my pregnancy. It is normal for some women to have this due to hormonal changes in the body. That is what my OB/GYN had told me. I also had burning in my hips at 5 weeks and restless leg syndrome. Ah the joys of pregnancy. Good luck and congratulations.

This is all perfectly normal. Your body is going through so many changes..and it's "making a baby". It may happen everyday, but let's face it a miracle none the less.
