His Story

2007-06-19 03:01:17 · answer #1 · answered by Hamilton L 3 · 1 1

History can be a few things to one person or another. But the most obvious definition of history is the recorded accounts of events happening in the past. These events would, and should, include the date and place of each event and often share the person(s) involved.

When looking at the history of your computer activitiy, it would tell you what sites you have visited recently and in what chronological order. so it gives the date and address of each visit in a hyperlink form so that you may return to that site, if you like.

In history of the world, we have a bit more detail in the recordings. World or U.S. History would include the event, the person(s) involved, the dates of pertinant happenings, the location(s) and the outcome, or the result of the event's purpose.

We find that knowing or studying the history of something, someone or some place - can acutally help us understand things in the future. These facts of history can very well drive us to pursue our goals and overcome the challenges that we face despite the odds against us.

Knowing what has resulted in the past, for some inventors, explorers, leaders, etc., can draw an outline for us in today's pursuits, at times. Some times it reoccurs but in a modern version of the previous event. That's how the expression "HIstory repeats itself" comes into play.

History...
By learning the past, we can better understand our present, and if you're smart and really good, we can even use it as a window into the future.

The cliche of history repeating itself is pure and simple proof which should alarm most of us in America. Take a look at the social problems concerning the US at the end of the 19th century leading up to the Great Depression and you'll see that we are following the same path. Better yet study the Roman Empire after the reign of Constantine and see what mistakes they made before the fell:

Outsourcing, Illegal Immigration, Wars in the Middle East over the area between the Tigris and the Euphrates, lack of identity in language and culture, the wealthy run out of control with greed, the dilution of the middle class....

Don't take my word for it. See for yourself.

History can be anything that has past, but generally it is something that is of importance that happened long ago. Could be something worth learning from so that mistakes are not repeated or something that is a great accomplishment. Historical events are recorded usually because they are of importance to whoever wrote them down.

History is the topic of arranging past events in order to make better sense of our current world. History can encompass politics, culture, religion, technology, popular culture, sex, clothing, etc--even the history of plumbing can be interesting to some, while giving perspective to modern life.
