You need an attorney.

Is this a personal lien by him against the property or are you talking about a joint mortgage you signed to purchase/mortgage the property together? If it's a personal lien he placed on the property, he will have to file a satisfaction of lien against the property in the court house where the lien is recorded. The clerk of court can help him with that. It is useless unless done correctly and filed! A judge can also rule to have it cleared...that requires going to court. If it's a joint mortgage with you two and a lender, you will have to refinance without his signature and that will require the old mortgage holder to release it (they want their money in other words).

OK, assuming this is USA, and that the lien you talk about is a third party note against your husband with the house as collateral, your ex will have to refinance the note some how by offering collateral, nothing he signs will release the note from the house, he needs to work with bank holding the note to refinance with new collateral if not the bank will not release the note

What kind of lien? Really doesn't matter though. The only way to clear a lien is to pay it off.

If it's a tax lien, pay the taxes. If it's a mortgage, you'll either have to pay it off or refinance it without his name on the new mortgage.

If the lien you are refering to is the mortgage liena dn it is paid off then the lender is suppose to record a satisfaction of lien. That is their responsibility to do, but sadly it often doesn't happen. I would contact the lender if they have not.

Talk to a settlement attorney, then pay for them to do it. That way you'll know it's done right.
