A friend and I are arguing about how many times A DAY a person should take the dump to qualify as having a clean colon.

I say once a day is sufficient and he goes to say that it should be 3 times a day.

Who is right?!

Many people believe that the definition of a normal bowel movement is having 1 movement each day, but that is not true for everyone. There is no rule for frequency of bowel movements, but the general range is from 3 times a day to 3 times a week. Less than 3 movements a week may indicate constipation, and more than 3 watery stools a day could indicate diarrhea.

It depends on the person. Some people go only once a day while others may go 2 or more times a day. It could depend on how much food a person eats during the day that would make them go 1 time or more.

Both of you, everyones system is different and everyone eats different, so it's kinda based on what you eat and what your body is use to. People that tend to eat a lot of fruit will go more often and people that eat a lot of beef will go less often. Say someone (anyone) were to eat a steak dinner, it takes 3 days for a body to completely digest the steak. If one person eats a full serving of fruit with or shortly after their meal the fruit will push things through quicker, if not ...well it's gonna take awhile, depending on what you eat, could take the full three days. That's partly why Dr's. recommend not eating a lot of beef.

I think it depends on the person and the diet... I always thought at least once a day was good enough, best bet to get a great answer is to just call the doctors office and ask them

Once a day is sufficient, but it makes sense why yous friend argue that it should be 3, thats cause your friend is a vegtarian, naturally he'll have more ditary fiber in him.
