A female Betta in mating condition will be plump looking, and when she is ready to spawn a small, triangular appearing tube will be visible at her vent. The tube (known as a spawning tube) will be white and only a couple of mm's long. When the tube is visible and the male has built a nice large bubble nest remove the divider and observe the fish for a while, there will probably be some flaring and chasing, but when the female is ready she will hover under the bubble nest. The male will form a"U" shape around her body, and a small amount of eggs will be expelled and fertilized. The eggs will sink to the bottom of the tank, and the male will retrieve them and "blow" them into the nest, then the "embrace" will be repeated until the female is depleted of eggs. Don't be alarmed by the females condition during the embrace part of the spawn(she sort of goes into a semi-conscious state ,but at the end of the spawn she will revive. This is the time to remove the female, the male will try to drive her away, and in the confines of the tank he will kill her if she's left in.
While the male is caring for the eggs the fish keeper is making preparations for feeding the hatchlings, this requires another skill to be learned, and can be researched on any of the Betta web-sites.

ok first off she should be in the same tank as him but with a barrier between or in a betta trap - something so they share the same water -
if loose together and she isnt ready to breed - they will fight -
anyhow when she is ready her colors will change (often they get stripes) her hormones will enter the water letting the male know she is a female (otherwise he will think shes another male becuase wild bettas are not as colorful)....
anyhow he will build a bubble nest - she can be let out to lay eggs.. but you need to remove her after - as the male raises the young and the female will eat them...

she will look darker and she will have verticle stripes on her :) if he/she flares (usually male) it means that he/she like one another witch is a good sign :)and the male needs to make a bubble nest first . do some reasearch on that have fun ;)
