Not all people are this way. The 'trick' is to surround yourself with people who won't treat you that way and to 'lay down the law' to those shallow self-seekers.
But I DO know what you mean!

Because some people tend to forget the "do onto others have you would have them do onto you" idea and just take the American version which is "all for me and none for you". Feel free to blame on how the media teaches this right away with our kids through Disney and cartoons... I would.

Sad really.

The other thought is that these were kids that were brought up without being taught respect and learned to disrespect their parents and got away with it. This in turn causes a domino effect. Dis the parents, dis the teachers, from teachers to authorities, and from authrorities to peoples personal property, whether its physical space, actual property, or just their way of life.
Sadly, its just going to get worse as these kids become parents, and the cycle continues and grows.

Don't take this personally, but maybe you are too sensitive. I know I am sometimes, even with my own kids.

I feel that people have lost the ability to be courteous, nice, respectful. Ever notice how many blame their problems on others? We really need to "pay it forward", like the movie. Don't get angry, to be mean, or vengeful... be nice no matter what. Be helpful when you can. Do good things, pay it forward.

Some people just don't get it. Someday they will run into a situation where they will act like a jack_ss and it will bite them in the a_s!

I totally don't understand some people....you are right....I know that I treat my kids to be polite.

We need to stop all the political correctness bs and start slapping mean people around

thats true. some people see nice being as being weak so the take advantage of them. I say be the nice person you are, BUT the minute someone tries to take advantage of that or treat you like crap, put them in their place and let them know they can't f*&k with you. Be firm.

because you're talking about a balance of power, and miserable awful people only respect those things that make them feel miserable and awful. Personally, I avoid them. This way, they don't bother me, and I give them something to talk about by being stuck up.

Human nature they like it when people stand up to them, while when you are nice they take it as a sign of weakness.

Sometimes being nice is associated with being sensible, WEAK. They think that they can just walk all over you and you'll just say whatever and act nice and forgiving.
