i have sat with my legs crossed probably starting when i was around seven now i am fourty. i cross them every time i sit down, eventually after a long priod of crossing my top leg gets numb. i have heard that crossing your legs can cause vein problems, back problems, and hip problems, i dont have any at all, but is this true that it is bad? do you cross your legs also? and are you aware it might be bad?

I don't see why it would be. I sit with my legs crossed. I feel weird if I don't. I've had it happen when my top leg gets numb, too. When ever you sit (or lay or whatever) in one position for too long, a certain part of body may become numb or "fall asleep". If you rest your chin in your hand for too long, your arm gets numb. If you sit on your foot for too long, the same thing happens. It's the body's reaction to having your blood circulation cut off, although not completely cut off.

It is logical to think your circulation in the leg "doing the crossing" is compromised which can lead to vericose veins. Also in that same leg extra force is exerted on that hip/ligaments/tendons thus causing hip issues. And as for back problems it does throw off you alignment making your spine curve and may strain your back. So yes it is bad. Will you actually stop doing it? Probably not; its a lifelong habit!

it IS not good for you. Especially for women over 35, it causes circulatory deficits that can lead to blood clots that can lead to pulmonary embolisms and even strokes. It is a habit well worth breaking.

I heard that you could get blood clots that way but I am sure you would have to do that for a very, very long time though.
