To Dodgerblue:
He might have been on steroids but he never tested positive.

Why shouldn't he go to the Yankees. If you forgot, the Yankees had Bobby Bonds in 1975.

Jason A says that the media would be all over him. Do you think they'll hound him just like the press was all over Roger Maris in 1961?

yes you heard the trade RUMOR. It wont happen , not until at least he breaks the record.
Whenever a team slumps like this and has a player of Bonds caliber they ALWAYS talk trades

I don't think he'll be traded for these reasons:

1. Nobody wants to go out of their way to get a player whose is seen by the fans as a cheater.

2. He's old and nearing the end of his career, so he'll be gone in a year or two.

3. He is old and requires a day off basically every week. Not only that, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets injured from being overworked.

4. Statistically, he's much less impressive than you'd think.

5. High salary.

Now I'll tell you specifically why I'd rather have Matsui than Bonds on my team:

1. Matsui is good in the clutch and gets singles when they are needed.

2. Matsui can go an entire season without missing more than a few games. Bonds cannot go a month without a day off.

3. Matsui will be playing for a while after this season. There is no way that Bonds can last more than another season or two at the most.

4. Matsui has a good reputation. Fans hate Bonds.

5. Matsui attracts attention from Japanese fans and results in business from them, not to mention Japanese advertisers.

6. The Yankees don't need a controversial player to draw in more fans. They already lead the league in attendance at home and on the road.

Probably not.

Even if they were, they would wait till after he hits the new record.

An article on him from http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/barry_bonds/index.html:

Could Bonds Be Dealt In A Giants Firesale?
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News spoke extensively with both Giants GM Brian Sabean and Barry Bonds, and some interesting information emerged.

First off, Bonds' comments seem to indicate he'd waive his no-trade clause if a need arose. Let's say he hits #756 July 18th against Rich Hill. That would work out nicely for the Giants, as the interest in Bonds as a sideshow would wane after he broke the record. Sabean could ditch the $8MM or so remaining on his 2007 contract and the Giants could finally move on. Bonds might be a nice fit for the Mariners for a couple of months. The Twins would benefit even more, but that scenario seems highly unlikely. The Angels or A's could definitely make a push and find some room for Bonds.

Baggarly's article also has Brian Sabean acknowledging that the Giants may have to go into sell mode. Baggarly names Ray Durham, Omar Vizquel, Rich Aurilia, Matt Morris, Pedro Feliz, and Steve Kline as veterans who could be sent packing. Might as well throw in Ryan Klesko, Randy Winn, and Dave Roberts. If you're going to have a firesale, don't hold back.

The Red Sox could snag Winn or Roberts as a stopgap in center field, but both are signed through 2009. Not the easiest contracts to move. Matt Morris could net a nice return. With a 3.21 ERA, has has to be at the peak of his value. He earns $9.5MM this year, $9.5MM in '08, and has a club option for $9MM with a $1MM buyout attached for '09. The Mariners, Phillies, Braves, and Astros could be possibilities.

The Yankees won't do it. Look at how the fans turned on Giambi when he hinted at steroids. If you take a 'roid freak to New York, he would be tore apart. Besides, Matsui would be a huge downgrade in ticket potential for the Giants. Right now, Bonds is the only reason most San Francisco fans go to the games.

Why would you want to get rid of Matsui? Barry Bonds should stay in San Fran and the Yankees should go after more pitching and figure out a way to keep Arod in the bronx. GO YANKEES!!!!!

I dont think he will be traded, but if he does get traded i believe the best place for to go would be the yankees. They are used to all the controversey and he can handle the ny media even though he porb. wouldnt want to. But i dont think the y would give up Matsui for him, he brings to much the yankees and is a much better fielder then bonds.

Bonds did no longer decide to flat out admit he took steroids, so he reported that he took them no longer understanding what they have been on the time. That grew to become into the lie he's being indicted for. he isn't on trial now for utilising steroids, he's on trial for mendacity under oath to the grand jury. Now, because of the fact his testimony would be shown fake, we are able to thoroughly say that he 'knowingly' took steroids, which could be an admission on Bonds' section, proving that he did in certainty take steroids on objective.

Why would the Yankees want him? Even their owner isn't dumb enough to trade for him,. when Bonds was a free agent a few years ago the Yankees never even gave him a lowball contract offer.

Giants are being very generous with Barry, the only reason why Barry is still playing with the team is for him to pursue Aaron's HR record wearing the Giants uniform...with his age, everyone knows he is more so of part time player, with limited skills, defensive liability and so on...once he breaks the HR record, then they might as well ship him to AL league where he can be the DH role.

Oh, is he going to the Chicago Bulls with Kobe Bryant? In exchange for Ben Gordon, Lou Piniellas cap that he kicked when he went on his tirade, Dennis Rodmans wedding dress and the Sears Tower?
