I think the average age for a child to walk is 15 months. My son is 12 1/2 months and he has taken, at the most, 11 steps in a row, but technically is not walking. It just takes time, so don't stress, it'll come eventually.

Babies can walk anywhere from 9 months to 1 1/2 yrs. My daughter didn't crawl until she was 9 months. She rolled that whole time. She refused to crawl. She was able to get on her knees but she would just lay down and roll. You shouldn't worry too much because if he is walking with assistance and along furniture then he pretty much has the idea. But I wonder if when he first began learning to walk if someone was always holding his hand. Because if he never learned in the beginning how to do it his self then he may be scared to do it on his own now. Every child does everything in is his own time. The personality of your child can tell you alot about how your child will develop. If your child is more outgoing then he will learn how to be mobile sooner. But if he is indifferent or shy, then he will take his time to build confidence before going solo. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with your son. He is just content with his situation. Just like my child. She was happy rolling and there was nothing I could do to change that. He will walk unassisted soon. Just keep encouraging him to venture away from the furniture. But if you are really worried about his development, don't hesitate to take him to his doctor. Good luck.

No, not necessarily. It's about right that he's "cruising" from furniture to furniture for now. My son didn't really start to walk until about 14 months, and my sister's son was about the same age. My sister's daughter was a little earlier, but girls generally are. As long as your son is going through the progression of stages toward walking and is otherwise healthy, I don't think you need to worry about it at all :-)

I think they all start at different times. My son will be turning 1 on July 5th and last Wednesday was when he took his first steps. Now he will take anywhere from 1-10 steps before sitting down. He still crawls a lot too. I think it totally depends on the child. I think walking somewhere around a year is normal. You have nothing to worry about. At least he walks with a person or from thing to thing. Good luck.

Some babies don't walk til later but most are able to walk by 18 months. If he's doing so by holding onto furniture then it'll be any day, maybe this afternoon!

He is still within the normal range. All babies develop differently. It is consider 11-16 months as the norm for babies to be walking although most do right around the year mark. Hes walking holding on so I dont think it is a problem. Hes just not quite ready to go it on his own. Give him a little time he'll be running before you know it and youll be wishing for this time back.lol

He will walk when he is ready. Give it another month or two and you will be wishing his happy feet would stay still. Its sounds as if he is at the early stages of getting ready to walk. My friends son walked at 14 months. But now at 16 months he still refuses to hold his own bottle let alone drink out of a cup.

Some children take time to walk and is a normal phenomenon.Have you checked up whether he has any problem with his legs or feet? You have to help him in walking by supporting and make him walk. Or else you can take him to a doctor. If the child is very fat also they will walk late.

everyone wants their children to walk before their first birthday but when they do they are considered walking early.
My daughter was 15 half months old when she took her first steps. I was worried because she was making no effort to try to walk, no effort to even stand alone for a second or two and the proffesionals kept reassurein me but arranged an appointment at the gait clinic that bext month,,, as sods law goes the day before we were due to attend the gait clinic she stood alone for the first time that morning and by the end of the day she was walking accross the room unaided........... he will do it in his own time and is still well within normal boundaries

Sounds normal. I know kids that started walking at 10 months and others at 14 months. Don't worry about it.
