Does your name really tell you what kind of a person someone is? Do you believe that the name you give your child fortells their personality, or do you think that it is just a coinsidence when they are what their name suggests?

Well I am not a cherry(a bit fruity at times, but definitely not a fruit), I lack grace(clutzy), and I am not a Lydian woman. So I don't think so.

With a population of 6.5billion or so, I guess it depends.

I personally don't think names can foretell a person's personality, because personalities can be moulded and changed through time anyway. I don't think people will change their attitudes just because of the words in their name. Besides names are meant to be very positive or beautiful sounding. So unless a person is a serial killer or some twisted mind, I guess it's not that hard to live up to a name? Haha, so I guess it's a little of both, but more towards the latter.

A name doesn't define who someone is. If a name states some truth to how a person is...I would have to say it's a mere coinsidence.

I never believed what you named a child had any bearing on their personality until I did it.

I named my daughter Brenna Liann and that means spirited/independent and flower of the home. She has always been too independent for her own good and the extended family always dotes on her because she is pretty and sweet. She is now 16, watch out world here he comes.

I named my son Peter, the rock, the stable one. He is 1/2 and has the most easy going personality. We always know what to expect with him.

I do believe that both of my children were meant to have their names.

I don't think a name of a person tells you anything about his personality, If that is the case then the saving "don't judge a book by its cover" makes no sense at all. Whatever name you give your children if you raise them with love, understanding and compassion, they will still be good people even if their names are Dracula or Satan. Its how we mold our children from the bevy beginning, its what kinds of examples we give to them that for tells how they will be in the future not their names.

Not always sometimes your kids turn out really different than their names, but sometimes it actually works.

Take my name for example, Dana, in Arabic it means a jewel or a diamond, and i am still a teenager and i've already cost my parents a fortune...
So you can't really be sure, but a good technique is to choose 2-5 names beforehand, and when the baby is born see which one he/she looks more likely to..

Not really. My name is Donna Emily and neither meaning are me.

Donna means lady. Whilst I try to behave like a lady to a degree and am definitely not a ladette (too old for a start), I am not exactly the floaty dress lady of old.

Emily mean rival and I have no idea who I would be the rival of!

I don't think there is any relation - excpet from the ones you make because of people you know. If you know someone with blonde hair and glasses called Claire, and then you hear the name Claire, the image of the one you know will come in to mind, but if you meet her and she brown hair your mind makes you confused.
People choose names that suit their children, but that is probably like I said before, they think it suits them because they have allready made sub-conscious links with another person and their name. But people can choose names that suit their child in others ways and that is special.

Interesting question. My name is a perfect fit for me. But my personality isn't derived from my name and my name doesn't define me. However, if I had been named "Princess" I may not have been too happy about it! LOL
