For the same reason that people slow down in their cars as they pass the scene of an accident. There is something in us (well, maybe not all of us) that is fascinated with disaster and violence. By watching so much violence and brutality on TV we seem to grow numb to in real life.

I like action movies with violence. However, I really hate scary movies, and ones which are overly graphic just for the fun of it.

I saw Wolf Creek 2 days after returning to Australia, I had never heard of it, and my grandmother was coming with us, so it couldn't be a bad movie - right? I walked out of the cinema right after the pig on a stick scene, and did not sleep for 2 days. Needless to say, I did not see Hostel when it came out.
