BMCR - Terrorism expert Walter Laqueur in 1999 also has counted over 100 definitions and concludes that the "only general characteristic generally agreed upon is that terrorism involves violence and the threat of violence".

The United Kingdom defined acts of terrorism in the Terrorism Act 2000 as the use of threat of action where:

(a) the action falls within subsection (2),
(b) the use or threat is designed to i nf luence the government or to intimidate the public or a section of the public and
(c) the use or threat is made for the purpose of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause.

Hamas won't recognize the right of the state of Israel - in any form or with whatever boundaries - to exist. They have publicly stated this time and time again.

It's also important to remember that any territories Israel acquired post 1948 when the original partition occurred, she got during wars started by her Arab neighbours. Again, this is simple, historical fact.

Calling Hamas a terrorist group is not 'waving the blame around'. That's what they are. I won't even waste time discussing this point, in the same way I wouldn't waste time debating that the world is round.

MARKYMARK: The fact that the Palestinians elected Hamas proves that they had democratic elections. True, the world was hoping they might choose Fatah, a more moderate, secular group who were keen on peace talks with Israel.

But the west did not boycott; this is rubbish. Are you seriously going to suggest that the west, and Israel, should give money to Hamas, when Hamas have made it painfully clear that they will continue attacking Israel and that they hope to 'drive the Jews into the sea'. We should finance this, should we???

Would you fund the Klan? Because there's no difference.

Iran funds Hamas; this group is certainly not short of money, so don't worry too much about them...!

No democratic, logical nation in the world would EVER agree to give aid and money to a terrorist group that kept declaring, over and over, its' intention to destroy another country.

This a redundant question. One, Israel would not prefer hamas to nicely known it because of the fact the entire international and the U.N. recognizes Israel. Israel in many circumstances makes use of the attractiveness card to thwart or decelerate negotiations. Hamas leaders have repeated many circumstances that could Israel supply up breaking international regulation by utilizing development on occupied land, supply up the harrassment and oppression of the Palestinian those that they could initiate peace plans yet Israel has absolutley no prefer or prefer to ever supply Palestinians freedom or an self sufficient doable state.

Hamas charter specifically calls for the destruction of Israel, no matter what the borders are. So all your talk about "where are the borders?" is just a bluff and ignores the "elephant in the room" namely, that Hamas wants to detroy Israel.

And let me ask you a question regarding your "preemptive" statemant that tries to say that Hamas are not terorists... If what they do is NOT terrorism, then tell me, what is? In other words, what do THEY have to do in order for you to say, "Well, I didn't think they were terrorists before, but this time they have gone TOO FAR!"

Hmm?

As is the case, Hamas will never recognize Israel for them to do so is the antithesis of Hamas.

Update:

Nice of you to post a long rambling definition of what a terrorist is without directly answering my point.
My point was the following, since it seems to go over your head:
If one does not consider Hamas' actions terrorism then what that means, essentially speaking, that they can do ANYTHING and get away with it (at least in respect to being considered terrorists).
Do you think that they can do anything at all and you would never label them as terrorists? If the answer is yes, then you have no sense of morals. If the answer is no, then you have yet to explain which actions would constitute terorrism.
It is clear to anyone who has a sense of morals that the actions which Hamas have ALREADY done constitute terrorism.

As to the phrase "one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter" which literally true, it is completely meaningless as well. That is because one's evil man is another's hero as well, no? After all, the Nazis viewed Hitler as a hero while others viewede him as an evil man. But we all know who was right on that issue.

What they must recognise is the right of Israel to exist. The exact borders can be worked out during negotiations, but you cannot negotiate with someone who thinks you don't exist.

As for Ben Gurion - 1) Palestine has never been a state so who knows what he was talking about. 2) He lived in a different time 3) His statement is not enshrined in the Israeli constitution.

Well Hamas was ready to think about recognizing Israel in the borders pre 1967...Israel wants a recognition in the actual borders (it's actually wrong to say that Israel has borders, but whatever)...So I don't think it's a wonder why they don't want to recognize it...
Unfortunately no one can go back to the 1948 partition plan,I think that this is impossible...
The Palestinians already recognized Israel in the borders from 1967...

"Recognizing Israel" doesn't mean accepting any specific border. The border is clearly in dispute, and part of what is now termed Israel will later belong to a Palestinian state.

Rather, "Recognizing Israel" means acknowledging that the current state exists, has a right to exist, that civilians shouldn't be murdered through suicide bombs or rocket attacks, and that it isn't necessary to 'wipe Israel off the face of the map,' as Hamas demands in its charter.
