I like playing pool on Yahoo and the games on Pogo. I used to have no problem playing them but now for some reason as soon as I try to run anything that uses Java it just closes Internet explorer. I've tried reinstalling Java, rolled back my PC to when I know it was OK and when I go on the Java website it closes it automatically... nothing works. I even tried Mozilla... that didn't do anything either.

I'm using Windows Vista and Internet explorer 7 and in the Internet options under the advanced settings Java's ticked so I don't know what else to try.

Any ideas?

reset your security to defaults....also recheck to enable java and go into the user account areas and turn off the user account control.....then reboot and retry. If it still doesn't work you'll probably need to research java plugin to get it working, I've had no problems since I turned off the uac. Just a note, the UAC that runs in VIsta is just the old windows 98 type of thing that questions everything you do that could potentially cause problems for other users or the system/programs themselves......so as long as you aren't really doing much moore than the average type of computing (add/remove programs, deleting files you don't want/need, and checking emails, etc.) there's no need to leave it running. Its that annoying thing that pops-up and the options are to continue or cancel......with it off you don't get that prompt unless you do something or access and area that could cause system problems.

Question
What are some of the known issues with Microsoft Windows Vista?

Answer
When playing Pogo games on Microsoft Windows Vista, you may encounter one of the two issues listed below:

'Cannot load game images' error in some game
Perfect Pair Solitaire locks up (chat may or may not work fully)
Each of those issues can be fixed by using MS Java instead of Sun Java.

How to upgrade to or re-install MS Java on Windows Vista.

How do I upgrade or re-install the Microsoft Java VM?

Answer
Unless you are playing a game that requires MS Java like Freekstyle Crash Pad, SSX SnowDreams, or Need For Speed Top Speed, we strongly recommend that you use Sun's latest version of Java.

How to install Sun Java software
To download the Microsoft Java VM, try downloading and installing it from one of the links provided below after you read the following disclaimer.

Note: MS Java will only work with a Microsoft Internet Explorer browser that is Version 5 or later.

Once you've downloaded the program and scanned it for any malware, follow these steps:

Click Save when prompted.
At the top of the next window, there will be an area that says "Save in:". Immediately to the right, there is a drop-down box where you can select where you want to save the file. Make sure this is set to Desktop (It is the upper most list option)
Click Save. (The file will take anywhere from 1-40 minutes to download, depending on how fast your connection is.)
Once the file is downloaded, find the file named msjavx86_3805.exe. It will be located on your Desktop background.
Double-click the file to start the installation.
When asked "Would you like to install the Microsoft VM?", click Yes.
When installation is complete, you may need to restart your computer.

Next, uninstall the Sun Java Plug-in:

Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
Select Control Panel (this may be under 'Settings' on the Start Menu).
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Click Java 2 Runtime environment, SE v1.4.2_01. (Note that the version number may also be SEv1.5 or higher.)
Click Remove.
Follow the prompts to uninstall it.
Also, be sure to remove any "J2SE Runtime Environment..." items as well.

Now completely close all browser windows and try playing again. You're now using the Microsoft Java VM. If you still have problems after doing this, please submit a question by clicking the Contact Us tab above.
