I was in the hospital in December 2004, I had a miscariage and succesfully passed it myself, I had an exam at the hospital and ultrasound. The exam really hurt, and now I have been trying to get pregnant every since and can't. Could I called the hospital that I went to and find out what was performed on me if I give my information. I want to know if a DNC was performed, at the hospital they were very busy and didn't really let me know much. I'm just curious if it was a DNC, because that could be why I'm having a problem now. COuld I call and get info after this long?

First of all, I am sorry about your miscarriage. You can obtain your medical records and then take them to your current ob/gyn and go over then together and see what you find, You will need to go to the hospital's medical record department and complete their form to have your records sent to your current ob/gyn, otherwise you will have to pay for them which could run into some bucks. Normally they will send them to another medical entity for nothing, so be sure and have your physician's name and complete mailing address. I wish you the best.

I wouldn't call, I would just show up. Every hospital has a medical records department. It is your chart and by law you can actually look at it. You can even have copies made of it. If this is the first set of copies it's usually free. I would go get a copy and take it home and really read it, because if you sit at the hospital and read it you might miss something. I would get the copies and sit down with someone in the medical field or the Internet (because there Will be terms you don't understand, not that you are dumb, but I work in a hospital and I don't understand all of the lingo) and really read your chart.

Good luck and I hope everything works out OK!!!!

Your medical records will still be on file at the hospital. Most likely you'll have to make this type of request in writing and may have to pay a nominal charge for the printing/handling (varies by institution). You may want to get your primary health care professional involved, she/he will get quicker results-either way, your real question is best put forth to a gynecologist--'why am I not getting pregnant.'

Under the new HIPPA laws, thay cannot release information to you over the telephone. You can call and set up a time to go in and review your medical records with your physician or have the records sent to your new physician to review with you. It souds like you need to seriously review them ASAP and see if something was in fact done that is preventing you from conceiving at this time.

Best of luck to you!!!

Get a lawyer. Those are _your_ medical records and you have a right to them. You may even be able to bring suit against the hospital on that account.
Good luck.

They would have any procedures performed on file, even after 3 years.

Doubtful that they would just freely release information to you. The best way for you to get any information, is to get an attorney and take the hospital to court for damages or malpractice. They would then get all of your records because the court would demand them.

Sorry to hear this, lady. Best of luck to you.

Sorry for your loss. I suggest seeing your family doctor. Procedures leave tell-tale marks and he or she could probably give you an idea of what happened.
