It is human nature to fear what one does not know. When one does not "know" a thing, they block themselves off from understanding it, and the cycle of fear is completed in this way. The concept of Satan is a physical manifestation of the lock that "contains" that fear in its cycle. That is... fear can only persist if one believes Satan exists.
I agree, tarot is the most awesome tool for self-improvement. :)

Anything which takes control of people's lives away from the church is seen by them as "the work of the Devil or Satan". Tarot can be such a way in their eyes, as they know nothing of the use of the Tarot, and are forbidden to find out.
Many people have no idea what Tarot is and does through this ignorant religious restriction. In point of fact, the Tarot merely gives the reader a picture of the energies around a person or situation in any given circumstance. The reader is then enabled to give advice to the person asking the question as to how to proceed for the best result.
Fortune telling and the like have given Tarot a bad name, but it's just the misuse which has caused that.

Some people think that Tarot cards, and in fact any kind of divination are the work of Satan, a) because it says so in the Bible (Leviticus 19:26, where it states this: "Ye shall not eat [any thing] with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.") and b) because the Catholic Church during the Inquisition stated (and actually continues to state) that this is as it should be/ is true. Obviously, I do not believe this. The ability to read, to "divine", or to foretell the future, or just to assist others in sorting out their present, is a gift from the God and most especially the Goddess in my religion, which is Wicca. Did you have any other questions?

Because people are ignorant .. And they can't see past what other religions and people have told them.
Most religions don't want any other way of knowing besides trusting in god and believing everything is his will and tarot cards tell you instead of going to church, giving MONEY and praying ... And people ted to believe everything they have heard which 90% of which is made up ... So yeah people are just too stupid to know better.
I love Tarot Cards I'm very good at reading them!

The other posters pretty much hit the nail on the head. Fear and the lack of knowledge are the main reasons. Just like so many other things the church has choosen to make this a part of thier "it is of the devil" chant. I can't understand it myself as with so many other chrisitan things. That is a part of the reason I am Wiccan now.

People make fun of what they dont understand. They also make up stories of fiction to fill in the blanks, rather than asking or reading about something to educate their brains. It is human and it cannot be helped. Enjoy yourself with whatever pleases you and ignore the nay sayers. Enough people you will find will be open to you that this is possible.

People only fear what they don't understand
Nothing like a good card game to set you mind at ease, or help you out of a sticky situation : )
