Unless it's a 'have to' situation I would seriously reconsider. Of course they would understand if you are ill or a family member is ill or it's causing you a huge financial hardship to do this or something like that, but if you just don't like it anymore or you just don't feel like doing it anymore then you should really think about it before you quit. You made a commitment to do this show and if you quit then you're letting a lot of people down. You're also burning bridges. Theatre is a small community and quitting this show will impact you at other theatres, trust me. Everyone talks and the word will spread that you cannot be trusted to honor your committment.

Are you happy? Are there any conflicts with other cast members, directors, stage hands, etc?
If you are doing it just for fun and you are not having any fun or it is not what you expected. Step down and let someone know that you might be a better use behind the scenes, helping others.
Or if you want out completely just let someone know, You not wanting to do the musical will show soon and they'll ask you to leave. So save face and tell someone this is not your gig.

You don't have to make a big explanation but you do have to think of the consequences of your action.

All you need to say is something like, 'I'm very sorry, but something has come up that prevents me from fulfilling my obligation to the performance. Monday will be my last day.'

If you're quitting because you don't like the work or are bored or have had a better offer, think real hard before doing so. You didn't say if this was professional or amateur theater, but either way, you'll be burning bridges and perhaps limiting your future opportunities. People who produce these things and do the casting remember who stuck it out and who slacked off.

You had better have a pretty damn good reason for walking out and leaving your cast in the lurch. If you are simply unhappy, tough. You volunteered. Hell, you begged for this show.

If, however, you cannot, for a compelling reason, continue, find a replacement.

There are very few acceptable reasons for leaving a show:
1: Death (yours)
2: A better gig
3: You're fired

NEVER leave a show.

Due to unforeseen circumstances that have arisen in my personal life, I'm unable to finish my work here and I must bow out. See ya.
