The word "pasteurise" (pronounced 'paschurize') means:
"Heat food in order to kill harmful microorganisms".
An example would be " The Government has been supplying pasteurised milk to ensure that it is germ-free".

dominick_d, there was no need to correct her spelling. "s" is correct in "English English" while for some strange reason, American English uses a "z".
"Milk, heated at a controlled temperature for a fixed period of time in order to kill bacteria, is now pasteurised"
P.S: There is really only one spelling - the language is English!

Because the milk was poorly pasteurized, there was an outbreak of stomach cramps in the school. NOTE: I spell the word with a Z instead of your S. I am Northamerican. Perhaps your spelling is British??

OK, but you have to promise that you will use the US spelling.
Almost all milk that is legally sold in the USA is pasteurized; it is heated enough to kill bacteria and then immediately cooled. The process was developed by Louise Pasteur.
