Basically, I've been dating a guy for 8 months, he thinks anything under 1 year is crazy. And then he wants to add another year (or more) to that until we get married. I'm not sure how I feel about it because I think it should just "happen" without following a timeline. Help?

You've got the right idea. It can't be put to any time line.

I've been engaged twice before I finally took the plunge with my current wife.

My first fiance, I dated for four years and we lived together for the final two. A month after I finally proposed (which I did simply because I figured I 'had' to do since we were together for so long) she revealed all the times she cheated on me. Just to cleanse her conscience.

This led to a painful breakup that made me vulnerable for a woman that used me. We dated for like nine months and there wasn't a time she wasn't pressuring me to marry her. I finally bought a ring just to shut her up. She held sex over me. Powerful weapon. I fianlly found the strength to leave her.

I didn't date very seriously after that. I think like four years went by until I finally became comfortable with myself again. When I met my wife, I was fine with the fact that I might be alone the rest of my life.

Carolyn and I dated from Feb 2002 to August 2002 when I realized she was the one. We took a driving trip for Chicago to Washington DC. 12 hours driving there, three days there together and another 12 hour drive home. Most people would be sick and tired of one another, but not us. We came home in the morning and we still got together for dinner that night. I proposed on Thanksgiving of 2002. We had only been dating nine months.

It's 2007 and we'll be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary August 3. We have our son Brandon who just turned 20 months.

And if I ahd to do it all over again, honestly, I wouldn't change a thing. The hurt I went through all those years ago made it possible for me to be the man that I am today.

I am finally in a relationship that is going the "right way". i always jumped into a relationship feet first, always moving in with a guy after 2 or 3 months only to break up a few months later, and I can't tell you how many times I have been engaged! None of them were serious. I also got married to a man within a year and a half of being together and am now divorced because I didn't have the time to really know him, and it was a big mistake. I think I was thinking I was 31 and I must get married now! I have been with my boyfriend for a year now and am just now getting ready to move in with him. I feel that I actually know him well enough to take this step with him. We have been talking about marriage for the last three months, but I am definitely not in a hurry for that. We have a whole new situation now of getting to know how we will be living together. But I know that when he does ask, I will be saying yes. There is no time line, only when BOTH of you feels that it is the right time.

5 a million/2 years of courting till engagement 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days engagement would have been mutually 7 a million/2 years and lived mutually for almost 4 years as quickly as we are married. Why did we wait see you later? We have been 15 and sixteen as quickly as we met. we can be 23 and 24 via the time we are married. i'm purely 20 now and that i'm already reading my 2d degree, and working in a expert job. My better half is practise to possess his very own employer, which we would desire to continuously have on the tip of next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days (once I graduate my 2d degree) so we are extraordinarily financially good. we does no longer additionally be thinking this if we weren't. We were friends for about 2 years, dated for about a year, got engaged, and were married 4 months after we got engaged.

I agree with your boyfriend. However, I think there are always exceptions to the rule. I've known people who have gone on a couple dates and just know they will be together forever. I dated my HS sweetheart for 11 years and thought we'd be together forever. It ended.

My husband is wonderful, but when we first met I wasn't looking for a relationship. We became great friends. I think that's part of why we work so well.

yeah it really shouldn't have a time line but people who wed after 8 months don't usually stay together for much longer than that as a married couple. i've been with my bf for 4 years...still not even engaged. my sis has been with her hubby for 11 years and she's getting married next year and my other sis was with her hubby for 4 years before getting married! wait it out a bit. trust me...after 4 years i'm still learning things about my guy and we're really close...so i'm pretty sure u don't even kno the half of him yet!

We dated for 3 years before we got married, and waited three years after that before we had a baby. Next week, we'll celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
