I will be a senior in High School this coming Fall 07 and obviously, it's time to start applying for colleges. I am definitely sure I want to become a pharmacist, and Purdue is on the top of my list. However, I'm not sure if I can get into the college. My GPA is 3.75 and I work like 20 hours a week for my parents so I don't really have any community service. My ACT score is. I was wondering if I should apply to Purdue and complete the prePharm coursework there and then take my chances with their College of Pharmacy or apply Early Decision with St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

The thing is, I'm not sure if I want to waste my time doing 2 years of PrePharm coursework instead of just applying to the St. Louis College of Pharmacy where it's guaranteed that you graduate in 6 years. What should I do? If anyone is currently in Purdue's College of Pharmacy, can you give me some advice?

Whoops, I forgot to put in my ACT score. My ACT score was 23 when I first took it without any previous studying. I just retook it 2 weeks ago so hopefully my score improved. I studied for that one too.

ACK!

Retake your ACTs. A 23 is barely going to get you into Purdue, but not their most competitive program. All will hinge on that score. If you increase that by 5 points, you go from the bottom 25% of the Purdue class to the upper 25%. Lack of community service is not a major problem with a part time job, especially if you will be paying for a majority of your tuition. Wish the GPA was a little higher too.

Try early decision to St. Louis. If you don't get in, go to Purdue, but know that you are going to have to bring in a GPA over a 3.7 to have a chance at their pharmacy program.

The competition to get into Pharm schools is very tough and getting tougher. It really does not matter which college of pharmacy you attend, especially if you want to be a community pharmacist. All the schools teach pretty much the same curriculum because all the graduates have to pass the same licensing exams. I would apply to SL and go there, if accepted. Otherwise you could spend two years in prepharm and then wind up without a seat.

I know what the other answer means about pharmacists lacking street smarts. But of course, that doesnt matter in the least. When I need a pharmacist, I dont care at all about his street smarts, I only care that he is a real expert on book learning! That's what counts in this profession. But I disagree that someone got into pharm school because he wasnt smart enough to be an MD. In our local pharm school the prepharm kids have a higher average GPA than the premed kids. Pharmacy is not for dummies.

Why could you bypass to Purdue to do pre-pharm? Why no longer attend an area college for 2 years and shop funds? in case you bypass to Purdue for pre-pharm and you don't get in what's going to you do next? I advise you do 2 years at an area college and then prepare to a team of Pharmacy faculties around the rustic. So your opportunities of being oftentimes taking place someplace are greater advantageous. yet once you're purely going to Purdue considering which you like the faculty then I say important in biology or pre-med then in case you don't get in then you've a shot at scientific college or yet another pharm software and you'd be able to declare to be a real Boilermaker.

My best friend is a Pharmacist who went to Purdue. You sound smarter than he was in HS. He went to Indiana U for 4 years first . Wanted to be a doctor but wasn't smart enough. I don't think you'll have a problem. I use to go up to PU and party with all his Pharm friends.....what a bunch of idiots! Some people may be book smart but have no common sense what so ever!

I would recommend going to St Louis COP because there is no guarantee with Purdue. You can apply and see what happens.
