one very important application of chemistry to industrial engineering is in materials science. this is an area of chemistry that seeks to develop new materials, with new properties and improved characteristics. for example, if an process involves a sealant of some sort, chemistry can work to make it stronger, more heat/water resistant, or whatever property is needed most in its application. in materials science, chemists work to make materials lighter, stronger, more durable as well as safer to the consumer/environment.
