Any way you slice it, the toughest thing about being human is the uncertainty surrounding our mortality. We all know that, one day, some way, we are all going to stop living. But how? When? Will it hurt? Will it take long?
The scariest thing about being human is having to face these kinds of questions. We're the only creatures that assess our own mortality.
Whether you believe in an after-life or not, the fact that we are alive and that's all we know, and that it will and must end is scary. So scary, in fact, that we don't even contemplate it very much.
Ex. Telling a smoker that smoking will kill them has not, to my knowledge, EVER stopped someone from smoking. Why? Because there is a part of our brains that dwells on our own death almost constantly, a part so hidden and so sublimated that the threat of mortality becomes bearable. Otherwise, none of us would ever move in abject fear for our lives.

Having to face death and the deaths of people or others that we care about, the suffering up until that moment, and simply the fear of the unknown. I approach being human though from a little different angle. I believe in a more martial arts approach towards life and its experiences. We must truly prepare for the difficulties as best we can, but we must not LIVE in fear about them as a human being. The beauty and simple, quiet joy of every moment is far bigger in comparison than the time in suffering. Being a person who was abused myself, who had every reason to be afraid of being human, I discovered that the many, quiet, good moments actually far outnumbered the daily, fewer, temporary, bad moments. Being human means that we want to know the answers and we also learn that life is bigger than we are. It seems scary until we face it, face life, face the unknown with an open heart, an open mind, and an aware stance.

Why fear death? You don't know for sure its the end. You don't know if when you die you are transported to a land where all one feels is a constant euphoric pleasure. You don't know anything. Why fear the unknown, the uncertainty of life? Its exciting, keeps the world magical. I bet you all believe love is wonderful...that emotion that words could never explain properly, that 'magical' happening that science cannot explain. Its the same thing as the unknown, death, the list goes on. Appreciate it all as it is and you'll find passion :)
I think the scariest thing is that I could seriously harm someone. Like that fat kid from my class when I was 7 who we teased everyday for a year just because of his appearance. I wonder often if hes ok, hope that my selfish stupidity didn't cause him any serious psychological harm preventing him from ever finding that passion somehow..

I think the scariest thing about being a human is knowing how our nature changes with society's standards. People used to be so simple and open-hearted, with the voice of modesty at merely a whisper. Now, the majority is extremely superficial, overly judgmental, we backstab, show two faces, insult each other, work against one another...we have lost our identities because we are too busy trying to force people into their own traps. Our addictions have begun to take a toll, it is easier to find hate rather than love, stupid people reproduce, and an evergrowing population causes inflation. Too many things make the human life scary. It's all a matter of what means more to someone.

Fear.
See if for a moment you can entertain this new idea.
Most religions have one thing in common; they believe God is all loving, all forgiving, offers only Mercy, yes?
Who then has God not forgiven?
Who then has God punished?
Do we know the list of names of those in hell?
Just how bad do your mistakes have to be,
to be left out of Love?
Does God only forgive some?
We are talking about the difference in
trusting God or fearing God!
How could a Perfect Creator Parent forgive and punish at the same time?
Is it God who has frightened his children or ego greed of man? Think it over for yourself...... Just one more thought......
A teacher years ago told me a story about an ancient city named Hades, which had a great wall surrounding it to keep beasts and enemies out. As the story goes, there was an enormous pit of constantly burning garbage and debris out side this huge wall.
The cities counsel would also throw convicted murderers and thieves into this pit of fire, making it a very fearful place indeed. Hmmmmmm.....
God IS Love
Peace dear one.

The scariest thing about being a human is reading or hearing about just how cruel our species can be. We are (arguably) the most intelligent life form on this planet and yet some discriminate against other humans based on the colour of their skin, the country they live in or the religion they choose to follow. Some are capable of the most depraved and despicable acts against fellow humans - be they adults or children. Some promote hatred and violence.
The dark side of our species really does scare me.

Uncertainty, certainly, but the passing of time, the lost minutes that you will never get back, and the fact that you have fewer, left that is the scariest thing.
The best way to counter that fear is to use those minutes doing something good, to not waste them watching reality TV shows, or reading about celebrity no-nothings or worrying about something you have no control over.

There is no doubt in my mind that the scariest thing about being human, is being human. We are at the mercy of the intelligence of other human beings that get to 'call the shots' and quite often these people have no discernable intelligence. The scariest thing about being human is that there is another human waiting around the corner with nothing but violence, ignorance, arrogance, feelings of superiorty, blind faith or desperation going on inside his/her head. That is unpredictable and scares the bejesus out of me.

Certainly, it is uncertainty. However, the scariest thing about being human is the darkness we face when we realize that there is an end......
Some, or rather, most, will spend days thinking on what will happen to them that will make that be...... they will die every day thinking on it......
