We have found that ironing the image for too long results in scorching, but any less time does not transfer the image properly and leaves a 'plastic' surface which cracks and peels in the wash.

I'm afraid the image will always be plastic-y on that brand. As far as coming off in the wash, are you doing the right temp as well as the right amount of time with the iron? Also, when washing, are you washing inside out, gentle cycle, and no dryer?

Some of the brands just don't stand up so well.

it just needs to be done for the right amount of time not too long and not too short
