I was told this once and have learned to appreciate it only as the years have passed since I heard it:
True love is a choice and a sacrifice. We chose to love the other "forsaking all others" of the 4 billion people on earth, and then seeking their good above our own, and sacrificing for their good. The rest is hormonal and sensual.
Not to minimize the sensual and hormonal, but if we seek a "forever/true love" then it come down to choice and our willingness to sacrifice for the beloved.
I see this most clearly in mothers with children. They love them regardless of poopy pants and drool, sleepless nights, and rebel teen years.
I see it in old couples that "stuck it out" after businesses went bad, and hourglass figures became more like gallons of milk, ravaged by time - except for the heart, soul and will.

True love is very misunderstood, and despite the best efforts of philosophers through out the ages it still remains a mystery to most people. The definition of true love offered by Dr. Peck is worth considering, however. Basically, he explains true love as giving of yourself for the sake of the spiritual growth of other people and for your own spiritual growth.

I like the ideas given. I ask though is true love something you make or something that happens and just needs to be nurcher in the ways given.
Nurcher it with commitment, honesty, self-sacrifice, passion and the giving of your whole being.
In this way it will grow and blossom.
