Ah ha. My husband just helped my neighbour fix exactly the same problem on a Honda civic. I think they got all the materials for just over £30. took about 3 hours between the 2 of them, but I'm guessing you're not looking to undertake this job yourself? I'd suggest you go to whoever services your car and ask for a quote, and then ring round a couple of local garages to compare prices. If it's all much of a muchness then, go with your garage guy/gal

You need to be sure that the oil leak is coming from the sump and not from the another place on the engine. Take the car and get the engine steam cleaned (Make sure the distributor is covered in a plastic bag to ensure water does not get in it). Once clean run the engine and try to see were the oil is coming from, some times the oil filter, or rocker cover gasket can leak.
If it is the sump gasket that is leaking the gasket is very cheap (£7 to £15), however changing the gasket can be a real pain. Expect to pay between £100 to £150 to change the gasket. Use a small independent garage.

shouldnt be to bad if under waranty.but i would give them some s... as its a new car its part should have a reasonable shelf life.if you have to pay and its the sump gasket youre looking about 100 to 120 quid labour theyl try and drag it out .for bout 2 hrs id imagine.though it could be leaking from somewhere else.60 quid an hour at bmw dealer.if done else where warranty will be invalidated.

Until you take it somewhere to find out you`ll never know. Might only be a sump plug needs tightening. Surely a car under warranty will be covered for everything at no cost to you. Good Luck

Old mini or BMW?
if its an old mini, its most likely the drain plug or the gearbox gasket. The latter being quite a big job but as they are easy to work on, relatively cheap.
If its one of them BMW ones, probably something silly but expensive if you get it done at the dealership.
Get the problem diagnosed first, then go around and get some quotes.

Assuming its an old mini cooper i believe you have to drop the front sub-frame to get the sump off and change the gasket.
easy job for a garage but its still a few hours work. Probably a few hundred quid.
