I have a court case coming up soon (on 23rd June) - I have been advised by my lawyer that 'vakalat will be posted' - I need to know what this means? Is it a way to gain some time i.e. delay the hearing..? Or what?

Vakalatnamma means Power of attorney you give to your lawyer to appear on your behalf in your case, to reply, plead & take necessary orders of the court on your behalf even in your absence. Hope you understand this. On 23rd June is first date of hearing for you when your lawyer requires to file vakalatnamma or power of attorney signed by you in his favor so that the case can progress accordingly & he makes appearance on your behalf even in your absence, if you fail to appear on this date or your lawyer fails to file your signed vakalatnamma the court can proceed ex-parte against you so hurry up give a signed vakalatnamma to your lawyer now itself.

Actually the full word is Vakatlama. As far as I know it means court order. Once hearing date is fixed court will send you a notice where the matter of the case will be mentioned and you will be asked to appear in person or thro your legal representative at a particualr time and date. So your fear delay the hearing will not happen.
