No you dont need a visa to visit the usa, You fill in a visa waiver form on the plane and hand that in when you get to your first point of entry into the usa.

Well understand the difference first between a passport and a visa. A passport is authorization from your country to travel and a visa is authorization from another country (other than your country) to enter another country. You cannot get a visa without a passport.
A visa is not required (in advance) for travel to the UK from Las Vegas assuming that you are a US Citizen. The actual visa is a stamp or endorsement in your passport and is issued upon arrival in the UK. It is given at the time of arrival in the UK and is free of charge.

If you intend staying for less than 3 months, you can travel using the visa waiver programme, which is just a green form you complete on the aircraft. You can find out from the US Embassy web-site (search US embassy London on google). Or, your airline's webpage should have travel info.
More than 3 months, then you will need work or student visas.
While in the US, you cannot work.
Highly recommend Vegas and the local area. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

If you have a bar code type passport with more than 6 months remaining on it after you return to the UK you will be fine.
When you fly out there the airline gives you the relevant visa waiver forms to complete and pass to security at the airport on arrival.

If you have a UK passport - you don't need a visa. UK is one of the countries that get a waiver for visa.
