Not sure there are any for free there are anti virus software programs around but there basically pointless. What they do is scan for windows virues, so say if you had a flash drive which had a dorment virus on, it wouldn't effect the mac but the software could detect it before you put it into a windows machine.

For this reason I don't see the point, as its just hogging resources and not benfitting the Mac at all, PCs have virus protection, better to I imagine then anything on the Mac.

Macs do have security, I would make sure that he has his firewall on though to be safe, which is in prefeences > sharing I think.

Depends on what your dad is running on his Mac, like Window.

It is true that Macs are much safer than PCs, but they are not invulnerable.

It is only certain kinds of mainframes and mini computers that are invulnerable, so far. I suspect super computers may also be invulnerable. I do not know about work stations and hybrids.

Believe it or not, there are some kinds of computers even more vulnerable than Microsoft Windows.

Many people buy PCs Macs and run without protection, thinking they are safe for whatever reason. Some get infected right away, some are safe for years. Some get infected and don't know. It is a crap shoot out there.

When you get your first virus, and you did not have good backups, and later need to try to reinstall what you used to have ... it is a real nightmare.
