Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince seemed kinda odd. While reading it, I felt as if somebody else, not JKR, had written it. Anybody else felt that way? Or is it because it's supposed to be like first half of 7th book or something?

Written by somebody else, as in, a ghost writer. I'm not sure why but I felt that the book/story didn't have that usual style/caliber. It's just what I thought... was just wondering if other fan thought the same?

yeah,i thought it's a tad diff. fr ootp n gof style..i mean hermione was not dun justice at all,she came up as a whiny girl, not some grown woman who was thr 2 help harry or 2 care 4 him as she did in ootp..i was quite upset, too little hermione in hbp n to shallow was her char. thr..
hate ginny who kept picking on hermione, din like d idea of a ginny/harry r'sip..harry&hermione r way more suited...cuz mione is not clueless abt war etc...anyway,overall hbp was also boring as a book, besides d story line...it could be better...dun know.

HBP was very different from the past couple of books. I think the style was changed for a couple of reasons.
You-Know-Who started using Occulmency against Harry. Because of this, Harry was no longer having nightmares and his scar was not constantly burning. This caused a great change in Harry. He was much happier.
Also, Harry's growing up. In Order of the Phoenix Harry not only had the Voldemort connection, but also he had a lot of people telling him he was a liar. That is a lot of pressure for a 15 year old. With the end of the book, it was proved that Harry had been telling the truth all along.
I think several factors made the style of this book a lot lighter and because of this, I think the writing style was different. But if you read carefully it JKR through and through. She has weaved several things into the book as she does with all of the series.

I understand what your saying it did feel a little different, I guess part of that was not having an 'in your face' villain as Voldermort seemed more behind the scenes as the hunt of horecrox was the main focus. Even Draco's attempts to kill dumbledoor didn't seem as urgent during the book. I suppose because so much of it was spent on setting up the background of voldermort and I guess as JKR has said being the first half of a story across two books it leaves you with out any feeling of resolution that you get from the other books

I felt that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince did have a slighly different writing style to it but not so much like it wasn't written by JKR.

At times, when I read it, it did feel like that; mostly the first time. When it first came out, most people just read through it fast to find out what happens, and that was when I felt somewhat confused by the events Rowling had written. However, I reread it after I finished the book, and paid more attention to the details, and it felt more like the past books in the series.

I think that JK Rowling has just grown as a writer throughout the series... comparing HBP or Order of the Phoenix to Sorcerer's Stone, there is a difference in style, but it's because she is getting experience. The same thing has happened with the cover art... The American cover artist has said how 10 years is a long time, and that she has grown in her skill and her style has changed slightly in that period of time. I think the same thing has happened to Jo.

The first time I read it, it seemed a little bit different then her other books, but after I reread the other books and the 6th book, they seemed the same. I think it was just because I hadn't read any of her other books for such a long time.

I did not feel that way at all. In every element of HBP, word choice, characterizations, etc. was in line with the rest of her series. Had there been a ghost writer, it could never have been kept a secret.
