I know of someone who has just been offered a £2000 a year course to retrain in computer it,yet this guy is under a 18 month suspended prision sentence and180 hours community service,
(he was told he would have gone to prision for his crime, but because the prisions were full at the time of his case and under government guide lines he would just get a suspended sentence and community service.)

yet if i would like to do the same computer it course, i would have to pay in full , were he does not have to.
he was also told there is much more money available to help retrain offenders.
so my question
Is Uk tough or weak on crime?

The UK is in my opinion far too soft on crime.Give convicted prisoners a hard time and they might avoid re-offending.

weak - the government is scared of them, frankly, and the police are too busy filing paperwork that they can't actually cath anyone, and when they do, the prosons are too full to put anyone away.

The government is saying that crime rates have dropped: if crime rates have dropped, how come we have more people in prison now, than when tony blair came in, and how come the prisons are full for the first time since god knows when.

THey are weak on crime - they would rather help the offenders than the victims, who get nothing, whilst offenders get everything. In the papers this week there was that huntly guy on a food strike because his cell was not confertable - it's prison, it's not meant to be comfertable. Prisons get more money spent on the food than school do, they have snooker tables and playstations, and these courses, whilst half the population leaves school with no english or maths, and less than 5 a to c grades as gcse.

Obviously a criminal is one of the best things to be at the moment...

I personally believe that UK cannot cope with the range of crimes that been committed in its soil. The law is vary weak and the people that makes these laws make them under the advise from idiots.I come from a bit of a rough area and the police are powerless to do anything or they cant be bothered.Mainly because they're limited in terms of assistance to the area.Overall UK needs to re-evaluate its policies, otherwise we are looking at USA like standoff in UK.

Exceopt for putting the right rubbish in bins and motoring offences very weak indeed. It is not the fault of judges who have had their independence whittles awa nor of the Police who are being forced into following the political agenda of this laughing staock of a government, The fault lies with the government and ourselves for letting them get away with it

Actually, they generally let out Christian radicals early too. This is about equal treatment except Christians do not generally call out for peoples deaths, though angels of vengeance, etc..do . Yeah, tough on crime. Saying it and doing it, is two different things, though inciting someone to murder is dumb people do it often without realizing it. Had a friend of mine tell me to go shoot someone over something stupid.

WEAK, it's all about human rights and second chances, the victims get no second chances or rights, anything the criminal does to the victim can't be undone, so unless the victim deserved it(yes I do believe emotion should be considered in cases) the criminal should be punished, especialy if it can be proved 100% that they did it.

Weak on crime and weak on the causes of crime. Don't expect any help or sympathy if you are a victim of crime.

Very Very weak, they shuld take a leaf out of the US or French jails and puinish people when they transgress, not mollycoddle them giving them all they want.
