You see it on TV all the time. This or that charity trying to raise money to send to some country in Africa for poor starving people. But did you ever wonder why these poor starving people choose to have children when there is not enough food and they will, most likely, be poor the rest of their lives?
If it were me, I would rather do without sex or castrate myself before I would bring another child into that extreme poverty.
What do you think?

So, are you saying that the most WONDERFUL JOY THAT TWO PEOPLE CAN MAKE FOR THEMSELVES, AND THAT IS THE CREATION OF ANOTHER HUMAN BEING THAT THEY CAN LOVE AND CARE FOR AND SHARE THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER WITH, A HUMAN BEING THAT THAT WILL BRING MORE JOY TO A FAMILY THAN ONE CAN EVEN IMAGINE--especially among the poor, who can't run out and substitute meaningful love with distracting material goods--should be kept from the poor, along with every SINGLE OTHER POSSIBLE JOY OF LIFE?

You have got to be kidding. The poor have children, partly because it's one of the few real joys and happinesses and creations that they can afford to have and to make!!!! And the rich dare to say that "they" ought not to have anything at all, not even one of our most natural abilities to give and to LOVE and to have great JOY!!!!

Also, SEX is a great thing, and do you want to deprive the poor of that? Again, just rip away all material things from the poor, rip away all dignity, the ability to work in a meaningful way, and NOW JUST RIP AWAY SEX???? Furthermore, who is helping the poor to have sex with proper birth control, huh?

This is so upsetting. One, in order to survive, MUST think that "this too shall pass," that one will have something one day, and whom better to share it with than one's children?

So, do you want to rip away all HOPE, as well. Instead of talking about castration, why don't you just say that all poor people OWE IT TO THE REST OF US TO KILL THEMSELVES, AND TO DO IT NOW.

To have a child, to affirm one's reason for being, one's very essence, to affirm one's love for a partner, to share in the joy of humankind's most basic creative joy MUST NOT BE TAKEN FROM THOSE WHO CAN'T AFFORD IT....

ANYWAY, WHO CANNOT AFFORD LOVE? IF THE POOR CAN AFFORD NOTHING ELSE, THEY CAN AFFORD TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER AND TO LOVE THEIR CHILDREN.

And finally, for religious people, to have a child is to create human beings for the greater glory of God. Again, all has been ripped from the poor, are you going to take away their religions and thus their sacrifices in bringing souls onto earth to glorify God, as well--if such is their belief????

A man gives a woman a baby; she gives her man a baby!
THIS IS THE GREATEST GIFT OF SELF-WORTH AND SELF-AFFIRMATION, OF LOVE they will ever have to give to each other (rich or poor). To even discuss the removal of this huge, empowering, important part of anyone's life is a disgrace.

(ONLY THE RICH HAVE THE RIGHT TO THESE BASIC HUMAN JOYS AND NECESSITIES--WRONG!!!!)

In an often meaningless life--for rich or poor--, children are FUN--for what they give us, and for what we give them, for the innocence they bring out in us. SURE ROB THE POOR OF THE JOY of MEANING, ITSELF.

CHILDREN ARE ALSO HOPE. With each child is the hope that this very child will be THE ONE who might just grow up to save the community. And I don't find that hope unfounded.

The words 'rich' and 'poor' are not qualities nor quantities. A person may be richer or poorer than an other, but does that tell anything about their wealth? No, nothing. So as we think of what those words mean to us, do those meanings bare any resemblance to their reality and society. I think not. To resist the positive for fear of the negative possibility is an impossible decision because there is no negation for the negative and rejecting the positive on that basis would be suicide.

Women in Africa get raped all the time by the villagers...Most of them are very uneducated about sex and that you should use protection. Sometimes they are forced to because they need children to help them. They raise them and get them off to work planting crops or doing anything to earn money. Its really sad you know. They don't have birth control like we do...they are developing countries they have a high death rate and a high birth rate.

this is a very harsh judgement

I spent nearly one year in a very poor rural area of Brazil Never saw poorer but happier people. Living well bellow the poverty line with no TV, radio, fridge or furniture. I only witnessed harmony, love, respect & care.

I understand where you're coming from, but really what about the hungry in our own country? You never see adds asking for handouts for our own starving.

people in africa are sometimes raped you know. Also castrating yourself probably isn't as easy as just saying it....you are right, though. Maybe they just don't think of it.
