Army - Navy
You simply wouldn't believe it if you haven't lived it. There is nothing like having a 4 star walk into the mess hall and walk up to you at the corps squad table and say "Beat Navy Men!" and saying back "Beat Navy Sir!"
This is a game attended by multiple ex-presidents and more 3, 4 stars and congressmen than you can count.
Presidents telephone Super Bowl winners. They attend Army - Navy and sometimes come into the locker rooms!

Easily the Packers and the Bears. It's been going on for over 80 years, and will never end. Other rivalries like Colts and Pats will end when the teams start to slip. The Packers and Bears rivalry is always a fight no matter how good the teams are. And with the close proximity of the fans, the rivalry goes way past the teams too.

Without a doubt, Michigan vs. Ohio State. There hasn't been anything to rate the contest to besides the BoSox-Yankees matchup. There is a lot more at stake than just a division pennant or a playoff berth , we're talking about two teams that only play once a year so you can only win once a year, not try again the next day or when your schedule permits you to play down the road into that season .There are national championship hopes riding on ONE game. Name another college football or professional rivalry that has seen the most riding on one game. Heisman hopefuls, national championship games , conference bragging rights and just the deep sense of victory are all on the line every november when these two programs meet head to head. And who cares that it's two different states.Michigan fans HATE everything about the state of Ohio and Ohio fans will not even travel to Michigan out of simple disgust. This rivalry goes all the way back to the Toledo border dispute in 1836.Has any other rivalry date back to when this country was still expanding itself west? Name one.

Broncos vs. Raiders. This was already a pretty good rivalry before Mike Shanahan took over as head coach for the Broncos.
What many people don't know is that Mike Shanahan was a head coach for the Raiders for less than two seasons. While there, Shanahan wanted complete control over football operations and Al Davis wouldn't give it to him. During his stint with the Raiders he went 8-12, this record and the feud between Davis and Shanahan led to Shanahan being fired by Davis.
In 1992, Shanahan was hired as offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers on George Seifert's staff, capping his rise with a Super Bowl victory after the 1994 season. Shanahan's success with the 49ers earned him a head coaching spot once more, this time back in Denver with the Broncos beginning with the 1995 campaign. Shanahan led Elway and the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl championships after the 1997 and 1998 seasons, during which time the Broncos set a then-record for victories in two seasons.
But before Shanahan took this job with the Broncos, he and Al Davis had another feud because Al Davis still owed Shanahan $250,000 from his head coaching stint with the Raiders. Davis told Shanahan that if he coached for any other team in the NFL he would give it to him, but if he coached for the Broncos, he would never see that money. To this day, Shanahan still hasn't seen that money and that is why the rivalry between the Broncos and the Raiders is so fierce and hateful.

i'll go a slightly different track and nominate the rivalry between Duke and UNC in college basketball.
both teams are consistently among the top teams in the country, and games between the two consistently come down to the wire. I would say there's no more consistently great rivalry than Duke vs. UNC, where you can be sure that EVERY game is going to be hotly contested. This is in contrast to Ohio State vs. Michigan, where there are some classics (including one of the best college football games ever in 2006), but as often as not the game isn't really in doubt in the fourth quarter.
In addition, the fact that Duke and UNC play at least twice every year, and often three times (in the ACC tournament), make the rivalry more intense than a college football rivalry where the teams only meet once a year.
But what REALLY sets Duke/UNC apart from other rivalries is the proximity of the schools. The Duke and UNC campuses are only 8 miles from each other, so their fanbases are not set apart from each other, but rather overlap entirely. Compare that to Redskins/Cowboys(the top rivalry in the NFL) where the cities are 2000 miles apart, or even to Buckeyes/Wolverines, where although the states are neighboring, generally people who live in one state are fans of that state, and there's not a huge amount of day-to-day interaction between fans of the two teams. In the Triangle area of North Carolina, fans of Duke and UNC have to see each other every day - which fuels a stronger rivalry than is possible otherwise. (the only other rivalry i can think of that has this element is USC/UCLA, but that's more one-sided at the moment, and can't be considered on the same level as Duke/UNC)

I herd sum1 say the rivalry was all for TV...thats a load of bull...If its just for TV then why do I go 2 NYC with a Red Sox shirt on and get hazed and Im a 14 year old girl and I give it right back to them and the same goes for here. And why are little kids only aloud to say suk if they put yankees b4 it
-Cowboys and Redskins-its obvious they hate eachother

I would have to say the Bears vs Packers. They have met more times against each other (about 170 times) than any other NFL team in history. It's the 2nd oldest rivalry in history..1st being between the Bears and the Cardinals [85 games], who first met as the Decatur Staleys [Bears] and Chicago Cardinals in 1920. (Bears-Packers began the following season.) They are the top 2 teams to put people into the Football Hall of Fame.

Bears - Packers without question. This rivalry has been going on as long as the NFL has. Long before any AFC teams even existed so they aren't even plausible. The championship trophy is named for Lambardi and the NFC championship trophy is named for Halas. This rivally is built into the NFL. Not to say that there aren't other great rivalry games in the league but none that go back as far this one.

Simple... the oldest rivalry in the game, the Bears vs. Packers... It doesn't matter how either team is fairing in the season they always manage to get up for that game... Just look at the Packers last season in the final match... sitting on 7-8 while the bears were on 13-2 and they managed to beat them, great stuff!!!

I think you will get a different answer from 32 different cities. For us in Philly, the rivalry with the Cowboys is the biggest. Just something about beating a bunch of divas - especially in Big D - and putting another L in the loss column for the so-called Americas team that does it for us Eagles fans.
