Connection Test Failed Make sure your device is connected to a telephone jack using the included phone wire. Otherwise contact your ISP.

Had my BT line checked twice (inside and outside) and rewired. Had new micro filters. Since having Broadband, my line "crackles" (not regularly, but enough to be annoying!), switching off the modem sometimes works. I use all the wires included with my modem and I've spent a fortune ringing my ISP (which is namesco). they've talked me through reinstalling the modem and checking all the equipment, which is fine.

Any sensible suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Did the connecting to main socket and no connection. Rang namesco, still denying it's them. Feel part of the problem is the modem, sent that back today so I'll see what that does. It'll hopefully stop the cracking on the line (which stops when I switch the modem off). Namesco feel that this is the fault of the microfilters, so I'll have to buy more. If the new modem doesn't solve the problem, I will change ISP.

Some possibles are that you have interference from a high electrical output device (electrical heater) or a power line running parallel to the phone.

There are some assumptions I am making I will try to make them known. First is that your talking about DSL.

There are a number of factors that can cause what your describing. You modem should have a status screen you can monitor regarding your connection. On that page it will have information regarding packets. What your looking for is where the packets are failing, and how often.

Looked up your ISP I know its DSL and am also going forward assuming you have the DSL Modem model: ZyXEL 660RC.

Checking your TCP/IP configurations you should be able to get the ip address for the modem. Scratch this, by now if they have walked you through enough you should be able to get into the modem and from there find the status.

While not knowing what the setup is for the uk phone and how it exactly changes the overall locations of lost packets should be the same.

The main reason for this message I would think is that at some point in the wiring your modem is being filtered and your phone is not. This would cause the noise on the line and failed connection.

The best way I find to get ISP to fix the problem is to unplug everything but the modem then connect the modem outside right to the line into your home. (forgive if this suggestion is useless as I know weather in my current home of New Mexico is much more favorable for this) If you still cannot get a connection this way then it is for sure your isp. If you get a connection then the wiring is wrong.

When fixing the way the illustriously-dense Qwest (our local company for the same headaches) I set it up so that there is only 1 strait-through to the house and the rest are filtered at the box. I then redo the outlet in the house with a rj-45 jack that accepts rj-11 for the dsl so it is obviously for data. (keep the other slots empty so if a Ethernet is plugged in it doesn't cause problems. Any phone needed in the room with the dsl should be in the out port on the modem.

A piece of good news is this is a project with research you can complete for under $30 US and don't have to deal with ISP. Once you have done this you will know any problems are on their end.

You refuse to go to a vacation spot with no electricity and no phone lines. I don't refuse, but I do find it pretty tough to go more than 3 days without those things. What has the internet done to me? :(

Do you have extentions ? try unplug all the phones except for the master socket and try this first. Sound like an internal line issue.
