Well not all comedians but some. Many of the comedians that do, are cynics, and cynics are very intellectual & possess a sharp sense of humour [usually a sarcastic one] so they're able to make jokes and laugh about anything really. Cynicism is a characteristic found in not ALL but many people who suffer from depression, anxiety etc. So this could possibly be the reason however i am just guessing.

Yes I believe that it its true also many die on stage . The constant tsion of performance and that of imenent rejection , the adrenaline must really pump away.

To directly answer your question just think of the insight a commmedian ha to have of life the dark side is recogniseda nd investigated so the '' Funny '' side can be seen
I am a wiity person myself and I have been prone to depressions ( I take prozac to beat these)
To have humour or a witty personality it is also necessary to have a sensitive personality . You may find a quick temper and strong sense of injustice are present to . Humoutists are not your dead fish anal retentatives ( you can see enough of them working in ''THE OFFICE'' and why a humourist however necessary dosent fit in or get promotion or acolade
Remeber to keep balance at court the only person that could chevy the king with impunity was the jester he really told the king how things LIE necessary for security of the Realm all round

Artists suffer for their art. I'm not sure why but it just seems to be the way it works. I think it has something to do with looking into the sun.
