i get fast food about 6 or 7 times a week.... sometimes twice a day. i am pretty poor, so when the kitchen is dirty and i am hungry and grumpy, its very attractive to eat for $2.12 (2 items dollar menu) --- usually this is even cheaper than what i would prepare for myself at home. oftentimes, i take the food home and eat it with a salad since McFood has so little fiber. Taco-bell, wendy, and Mcdonald runs for snacks have replaced pizza (don't live close to the dolla-slice joint anymore) and take-out chinese (the place went out of buisness)

has anybody else been hooked on fast food because its cheap and convienient? how do i escape fast food? i am so hungry all the time, but it seems most americans can live without the glorious McChicken

It is really difficult to avoid the trap of fast food, especially when you are faced with the choice of going home, cooking and cleaning, or vegging on the couch with a hamburger. As someone with a long commute and a busy schedule I totally understand! Here are some of the tips that I use to avoid the fast food trap.
1) Have food ready when you get home. I am a big fan of crock-pot meals, or something that just needs heated in the Microwave.
2) Double your lunch. When I make lunch I usually make an extra portion which I toss in the fridge and reheat for dinner (the guilt of having food made at home can't be underestimated!)
3) Change your route. When driving home try to avoid areas with a lot of fast food, it might add some time to your drive but if you can't stop your self when you see a drive though avoid seeing them.
4) Become a snacker. Keep healthy but yummy snacks stashed in your car, when you crave a big mac, pull out a bag of peanuts instead.

Best of Luck!

Your's is a very common problem in America.

There is a lot you can do to break the habit to running to Mickey D or other fast food joints.

First clean your kitchen. You seem more of a lazy person than fast food junkie. Once the kitchen is clean, you will like to be in the kitchen.

Then look for the recipes which donot require a lot of time to cook and are nutritional. Salad, beans, chicken or any other meat, rice and everything else that a fast food place sells, you can make it home and a lot healtheir too.

What you think is expensive to cook at home and cheaper to eat out is not true!! Once you find out how much fat, junk, preservatives and chemicals are in fast food, you will NEVER even come close to eating fast food. By eating fast food everyday, you are systematically destroying your health.

What you will cook in the house will be free from chemicals and preservatives. You will feel a lot happier and healthier. Cooking is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

You can go to google and look for any receipe you are intersted in.

Happy and healthy eating. Enjoy.

Okay, you gotta get up 25 bucks and go to a real store and buy some bread and lunch meat and eggs and butter and maybe some burgers to fry and some apples and stuff
'cause it's probably costing you more to eat that junk than what you realize. Clean that kitchen up then get ya some paper plates and use that microwave some. There's some decent frozen foods in the grocery to eat!

This should cure you from ever eating at any fast food place again! Just remember that McD's uses worm meal as a supplement to increase the protein level of it's meat ,and that all fast food places are required to have a minimum protein level and most likely they all use something like McDonalds!

Healthier food is more expenceive then fast food, but its better in the long run. You wont by as much of it so you save that way.
Maybe if you take healthy snacks with you, Rice crackers, celery sticks or carrot sticks to snack on when you get 'peckish'. Low 'GI' foods are good.

It's mostly about self control rather then need.
Convince yourself that you don't NEED it you just WANT it. Wants can be overcome, afterall we all want to live 'till we're 100, it will be worth the sacrifice =)

Honestly, I think it is a matter of habbit. You have formed the habbit of eating fast food.
I used to not stand drinking coffee with no sugar. Now, I cannot stand to put sugar in my coffee.
If you start eating healthy, your body will feel healthier that in a few weeks, you will find fatty things repulsive.
I know it is quicker for you to just order from out but again, i think you should get into the habbit of cooking for yourself healthy meals. you are gaining in the end. You can shop healthy and economically too.

Sing along now-

El Pollo Loco!!

(They have a dollar menu, too)

Oh yeah, and Zankou chicken... Once you taste the real thing, McDroppings lose their appeal :)

Watch the DVD "Super-size Me" and you'll probably lose your fondness for fast food:

Try switching from McDonald's to Subway. It's more expensive, but a Subway sandwich can probably last you for 2 or 3 meals. It worked for Jared!
