My boyfriend and I have been together for quite sometime, 2+ years. We are both in our mid-20's. We've discussed marriage, but not heavily.

Recently, I saw a beautiful engagement ring. I thought it would be cute to send a picture of it to my boyfriend, in an e-mail. He likes me to spend him pictures of jewerly I like, b/c he's clueless on what to get for birthdays and such. So, it's not like I'm being rude about the cost or anything.

What do you think? Too bold. I mean, in our discussion of marriage, we discussed being together. So, that's not the issue here. It's just futhering the conversation to a potential agreement on when we would like to get married, etc.

Is this a good way to progress the marriage discussion?

i think it is a good thing, most guys are clueless about buying the engagement ring. i mean, you are going to be wearing it for the rest of your life, you need to love it. sometimes guys need a little hint now and again

You seem very nervous about discussing things further - hence you writing in this forum and trying to re-intruduce the topic by way of emailed photos.

This tells me that things are not right with regard to making future plans and decisions, and that you have detected some reticence on his part to progress the engagement and marriage plans further.

What you don't mention is his reaction when he recerived the picture of the engagement ring. If it had been the reaction you long for then you wouldn't have popped up asking for advice here.

On the information you have given, my advice is to be more patient - and more subtle in your approach! You say it has been discussed in the past, quite naturally and openly I presume. That is the basis for both courtship and marriage - being at ease with each other.

Don't introduce unecessary strains into your relationship.

It's been discussed before - let it be discussed again. He didn't run a mile last time did he?

Just try to be a little bit patient and a little bit subtle. Marriage is a big step for both of you - bide your time and use your (undoubted) feminine wiles!

Good luck from one who's been there.

If he's a guy that is already comfortable with discussing marriage, I don't think it would do any harm sending him a picture of an engagement ring you would like to eventually receive from him.

He already likes it when you send him pictures/ideas of things you like. Saves him the trouble of thinking of what to get you.

Also, you can just say that "this is the style of ring I would like".

It's good for him to know... "just in case."

i think you did the right thing here
you've discussed it in depth so its not a presumption on your part
and i think you should have a say in the choice of ring and what better way to do it than the way you have, discreet.
he can still purchase the right ring, but also at his leisure, and surprise you when the time is right.

Yes, and also a way to pick your ring out. He just may try to find that exact one. Good luck.

Yeah you should show him. Maybe take a pic and show him when you face to face and get his reaction. That way you will know if you should proceed.

Yah go ahead. Relationships that long already has a bond so i think he will not take it negatively.

Instead, why don't you come right out and talk to him about it?
