seriously, what happend to the NBA's most storied franchise?, they haven't won a championship since the Larry Bird days, last one was 1986, 21 years ago, 2 years before I was born, & their record for most NBA championships, which is 16, luckily for them hasn't been passed yet, even 21 years. I'm not a Celtic's fan, but it's dissapointing that I still haven't been around to experience the "real Boston Celtic tradition".

Personally I think there Contenders, they have 3 great players on there team who avaraged over 20 points per game. The Boston Celtics will probably make it to the NBA finals. It will be hard there are 3 other very good teams. The Chicago Bulls, the Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavs, but we'll have to see until the season starts. Kobe Bryant may go to Chicago. He'll go to the Eastern conference for sure. So we don't know. They added good players other than the big 3. Eddie House, James Posey, Glen Davis. I pick the Celtics to be in the NBA finals but it is too early to tell.

The current Celtics funk is a combination of extreme bad luck & boneheaded executives from their front office.

Their decline after the Bird era was confounded by the death of their #2 overall pick Len Bias a day after getting drafted. they were also robbed of a superstar when Reggie Lewis also died just when he was starting to come into his own as an all star.

As late as about five years ago, the celtics were a playoff team but due to management's inability to build a team around paul pierce thay have languished in the cellar for the past few years.

But don't fret, the Celtics have a wealth of young players and if a rumored deal for KG pushes through they will again be playoff bound.

Poor management... I believe GM Danny Ainge can draft good players. Guys like Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes and Delonte West were excellent draft picks.

It's the rest of the GM duties that he's stinks at. Free agent signings like Brian Scalabrine really suck. His trades have been awful. The Szczerbiak and Telfair trades come to mind. And how about injecting some experience into the team? The team is way too young and inexperienced.

Lastly, he over-values his players when trade talks occur. He thinks Al Jefferson is a future Hall of Famer, and Gerald Green is the next Kobe Bryant. Come on... It must be a complete put off to GM's when Ainge talks so highly of his players.

The Celtics arent a contender because 1. All their legends have retired and left from the great celtics. 2. Danny Ainge hasnt done that great of a job rejuvenating the team to contention. 3. The have one good player in Pierce who is injured a lot so the cast has nonin for them

Did you watch the 2007 NBA finals? Because if you did, this should answer you question, you cannot win with a 1 man team! Just like how the Celtics are all they have is Paul Pierce, and maybe a couple other solid role players, but you need someone else you can depend on other than Pierce...

Bad drafts, bad free agent pickups & now Danny Ainge, he went after Sebastian Telfair???!!! He wasn't ready in Portland & they got him to run their offense. He prolly won't be in the league next year. Paul Pierce is a really good player, but I don't think he wants to be there. Unfortunately for you wanting to see Celtic greatness (or at least goodness) it doesn't look like help is on the way. No franchise altering free agents are out there this off-season, and Boston doesn't have enough to get anybody that could really help

i agree that ainge made a bunch of moves that really lead nowhere or didnt improve the team. he began his era by dismantling a playoff team, then made a series of draft picks that took a few years to develop (tony allen, al jefferson, etc).

recently he traded for telfair (similar to the knicks trading for francis in which EVERYBODY knew the move wouldn't work). and most recently, the celtics in a petty and fruitless attempt to secure oden or durant, tanked their season at the expense of their fans.

one of the other main reasons i think they're not doing well is because ainge cant decide if they want to rebuild (they keep using draft picks) or try and contend now (the celtics wasted pierce's prime)... oh, and re-signed doc rivers after receiving the second worst record in the NBA

it's all about the front office's decisions in where the team is going, I mean, I doubt KC Jones would win a championship team with the current roster (Pierce as your cornerstone!?) they had high picks come draft time because they had losing seasons but, seriously, how many times do you do that (tanking or otherwise) to build a championship team?! Boston has got to get better talent scouts!!!!

The leprechaun hasn't given them the luck they need for more than 2 decades. They thought that luck will be on their side this year, but then again, the lottery balls says no. Just like how they lost Duncan in the lottery.

Bad luck and mismanagement, that's all!

Because they keep trading away their lottery picks.....remember where tim duncan was suppose to go....yeah celtics but they traded him away for a bum of a draft pick. and oh yeah danny ainge was a great player but he just has bad luck with that little ping pong ball.
