Could it be arthritis? A simple blood test can tell you Maybe try some natural tablets if its swells, celery and juniper are great take them daily ,it helps with inflammation there for less pain. There are cheap and well worth it. I never thought anything like that would help me but it did. Good luck

If the bump is to the inside near the joint, a bunion may be the cause. If it's near the end of the toe and it's also red or irritated looking, it may be an ingrown nail, which you cannot fix yourself if it is severe. If the toe is so tender, that even the sheet crossing over it causes pain, it might be Gout, which is a form of arthritis. So, you decide what you need to do, all of the above require a doc's assistant, except for the bunion, which you can live with if you purchase properly fitted shoes.

I know that you aren't comfortable with the idea of going to the dr but I would recommend that you get in to see your dr about this. I have had plenty of experience with the issue of ingrown toenails as the last poster mentioned and it was quite uncomfortable. I had to go to the dr each and every time to have the ingrown nail removed and have them put medication there to keep it from growing back.

The dr can help you to figure out if this is an ingrown toenail or something else like an infection going on that could be causing the pain.

In the mean time call and ask if it's ok to apply an ice pack to the area if you notice any swelling with this bump.

It is not likely that the bump on your foot is worrisome.

The bump you describe may just be a normal finding. However, you could have an enlarged foot bone or a cyst that has formed in an area of high stress in the foot. Sometimes these cysts will get larger and smaller throughout the day.

I would highly recommend that you see a Podiatrist for an exam and x-rays

if it's at the top edge along th nail it's an ingrown toenail, best to see a doctor before it gets too infected. They will cut the edge of the nail and cauterize it to prevent it from happening again. Pretty painess procedure.

If your young, then it might be a bungeon, if your older, then you should get checked for "Gout" this is very serious! It causes extreme pain in your joints and it only gets worst if you don't consult a doctor!
