i was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries syndrom (PCOS) and a 1cm myoma in my uterus. My doctor gave me metformin to be taken 3x/day for 3 months. now after over 2months of taking it, i noticed that im bloated. my weight is still the same but my stomach is getting bigger. metformin is primarily used for diabetic patients who are obese so i figured that i may even become thinner when im taking it. i have an average figure and my stomach is giving me much discomfort. is this really the effect of metformin?if not, is this a sign of another problem? what other medicine can i take?

I have taken Metformin for years due to PCOS. It helped me greatly with weight loss, I also think that the Metformin is part of the reason that I am now pregnant. My Husband did play a small part it it however!!

I found that the Metformin did upset my stomach and often made motions runny. I was also slightly gassey with it. The bloating that you are feeling, could be as simply be gas.

I have heard that it can cause swelling. I would also recommend checking with your pharmacist to see what they say and also please let your dr know about this side effect.
