Looks like you're doing the righ thing with your marbles, here are some sites that explain everything on breeding them

you should not have to remove them, however from personal experience you may want to consider a diiferent substrate. my fry tended to get "stuck" in the crevices in the marbles . also if you want to be able to enjoy watching them, the marbles hide them most of the time. here is a link to a site that has some more breeding info good luck!http://characin.com/carey/articles/98/spawning_tetras.html
