I would say that you don't really gain more respect with age, maybe wisdom but that doesn't mean that people are going to listen to it.

Not always. You still have to earn it. Why not? Otherwise you could sit around on your fat kazoo for sixty years and contribute nothing. Will you respect Paris Hilton when she's sixty? I won't. What about Ian Curtis or that other guy? They both died young, and they have a lot of respect.

I think it is more kindness than "respect." In the workplace, I would gage it more as respect. In life in general, I would have to use the word kindness.
