How would you describe or categorize his music? What songs do you like most?

Some of his albums are uneven but I think Rain Dogs is flawless from beginning to end and I also like Old Shoes (And Picture Postcards), On the Nickel, and Jersey Girl, just to name a few.

My favorite Tom Waits song is a real oldie...
"Big Joe and Phantom 309" off his Nighthawks at the Diner album, from the 70's I believe....
love that song which is typical of the moody atmosphere his raspy voice creates in many of his songs.

I like this quote to describe it "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months and then taken outside and run over with a car."

I love all his stuff, Closing Time & Small Change are classic albums for me. Also Nighthawks & Blue Valentine.

"I Wish I Was In New Orleans (in the Lower 9th Ward)"

"Small Change (Got Rained on w/ his own .38)"

"Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis"
