Uranium ore emits radon gas wherever it is. The area surrounding uranium mines can be more dangerous than other types of mining. Most of this is due to the natural proximity of the ore deposit even if it is not being mined. Exposing and process the uranium ore has health and environmental hazardous. However, new mining operations will not be operating in the same way as they did during the last Uranium mining boom. Specifically, radioactive water and tailings will have to meet 21st century health standards. Canada and Australia mine most of the world’s uranium- both countries have high environmental standards and are setting the standards for the industry.
