Quiz1 + Quiz2 + Participation + FinalExam = 94
(20% * 85) + (25% * 77) + (10% * 10) + (40% * x) = 94
17 + 19.25 + 1 + 0.4x = 94
0.4x = 94 - 17 - 19.25 - 1 = 56.75
x = 56.75/0.4 = 142
liar, liar, pants on fire!
first you missed out on the other 5% computation for your overall grades.
then you bragged about getting 142 marks for your final exam.

.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(x) = 94
21.25 + 19.25 + 1 + .40x = 94
41.5 + .40x = 94
.40x = 52.5
x = 131.25
ANSWER: Your final exam grade alone is 131.25
If you got a 100 on the final exam, then your course grade is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(100) = 81.5
ANSWER EXPLAINED: That is, if you scored a 100 on the final, the best and exact course grade you can earn is 81.5. As a teacher would say, the highest course grade you can earn is a B (assuming 80% to 89% is a B).
If you got a 90 on the final exam, then your course grade is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(90) = 77.5
If you got a 80 on the final exam, then your course grade is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(80) = 73.5
If you got a 70 on the final exam, then your course grade is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(70) = 69.5
If you got a 60 on the final exam, then your course grade is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(60) = 65.5
If you got a 50 on the final exam, then your course grade is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(50) = 61.5
The lowest score you can receive on the final and pass the course with a course grade of 60 is
.25(85) + .25(77) +.10(10) + .40(x) = 60
41.5 + .40x = 60
.40x = 18.5
x = 46.25

Hi Jatt, If your brain works like a calculator, you need not use calculator for simple calculations. For example 87+28 = Make 87 as 90 and 28 as 30. Now 90+30=120 Just deduct added 3 in 87 and 2 added in 30 i.e. deduct 3+2=5 from 120 answer 120-5=115 Did I need calculator for simple calculation, friend? Before calculator was invented, people used to do calculation orally as above illustration or on paper. Good luck.

You got 85% on 1st quiz whose weight is 25%
You got 77% on 2nd quiz whose weight is 25%
You got 100% for participation whose weight is 10%
Your got x% for final quiz whose weight is 40%
Your overall score is 94
We can write:
85 x 0.25 + 77 x 0.25 + 100 x 0.1 =
21.25 + 19.25 +10 = 50.5 and weight is 60% of the score.
Since you got a total of 94 you must have got 94 - 50.5 = 43.5 but that is more than 100% since the final test is having only 40% weight.
So, your first and second quiz could have 20% each weight and the final quiz may have 50% weightage.
Recheck the weights and repost the question.

this will send you a step closer...
1) 25 x 85 / 100 = 21.25% (out of the possible 25%)
2) 25 x 77 /100 = 19.25% (out of the possible 25%)
3) 10 x 10 /100 = 10% (out of the possible 10%)
all those add up to 60% and you got 50.5% out of that...
nor do I know how much it was scaled up by... as currently if you got 100% in your exam, you would have ended up with 90.5% anyway you must have done better then most and then it was scaled acordingly (unless they made a mistake) :-)

This can not be answered.
In order to get a final grade of 94....you have had to have got 101.1 % on your final exam, because your the three other parts of your grade add up to 50.5 meaning you would need an additional 43.5. That would meen that you, not only aced the final exam, you got extra credit.

Let your score in final exam be m
So we have
0.25x85 + 0.25x77 + 0.1x100 + 0.4xm=94
21.25 + 19.25 + 10 + 0.4m = 94
0.4m=94 - 50.5=43.5
m=43.5/0.4=108.75
There is something wrong with the problem, you cant score more than 100% in any exam
