Some colleges maintain a book of headshots so that students can call actors directly, but most student filmmakers post notices on backstage.com or use their friends or acting students on campus. Student film auditions run the gamut since some are experienced and some are not. Some do on camera, some don't. Some have sides, some don't. Just be prepared to put them at ease, not the other way around :-) Assure them that you've done this before, you won't bail on them and you'll be there on time. Get their cell hpone number so you can call in case anything happens, ask if they can email you a copy of the script (if a print copy is not available due to it being too expensive or they weren't prepared)... that kind of thing. Whatever you do, take extra care to make sure that you phone number is one your headshot and not just on your resume... :-)
Good luck!

Colleges and Universities are a great place to find student film auditions, because there are a million student directors trying to get their stuff made. I'd walk around the film and theatre buildings of any local campuses and look at all the bulletin boards. Bet you'll find a ton of postings.
Yes, you need a resume and head shots. Even if not required at every audition, don't you want to conduct yourself as a professional? Act like one and you'll get treated like one.
Good luck!
