Im a new livestock manager at a local petstore and we just received a Hawaiin Feather Duster and I have no clue how to take care of him. I've read they are easy to take care of. But what im worried about is how do you now if its dead? I cleaned the gravol and everything around it today and it didn't move or anything.

They are filter feeders, so if it's in a tank with fish and you're feeding the fish (especially the frozen cubes of brine shrimp, plankton, Marine Cuisine, etc.) it will filter the small particles out of the water (of course this works best if you have the filtration off temporarily and target feed toward the duster with a turkey baster).

If the tube is "firm" the worm is still inside. Unless it smells very bad, it's not dead. Don't try to take it out of the tube, but prop it up with some live rock or let it rest on the substrate so that the ends are clear of any obstructions. When the worm is comfortable it'll extend the feeding fans. I have about 45 hawaiin feather dusters in my 24 gallon fish tank. There really really easy to take care of! There is only 1 thing you have to do and that feed it, all you have to do is buy some liquid food in a bottle like iron, pytoplex, ect. and drop a couple drops in the tank every 3 days. There the easiest thing in my tank to take care of! And my favorite! When there dead they wont come out of there shell for about 1 week. So give it a little longer to find out :]
GOOD LUCK~~~!
