I don't think he's overrated, he's a very good batter.

No, in a certain way, he is underrated as he is the second most feared hitter in the game today, and has been for a long time (Bonds--number one). Believe me, ask any A.L. pitcher out there and that's what they will tell you.
Yet when many people talk about the greatest players in the game he rarely gets mentioned. He is the most exciting player to watch hit, as he waggles his bat and hits the hardest line drives you will ever see.
If he stays healthy, he could end up with 550-600 HR (has about 470 or so right now) and his career batting average is just under .300, plus unlike a lot of power hitters, he doesn't strike out a lot.
Yes, he's a loud mouth and a jerk, and probably juiced up like dozens (hundreds?) of other sluggers, but the guy is one of the best hitters I've ever seen.

He's not the player he used to be, but there is no way you can call him overrated. He's still one of the best hitters in the game, but it would be nice if he played some defense now and then. Thats why the Yankees let him go, they had a DH and Abreu is better in the field than he is at this point. As great as he is at the plate they had nowhere to play him and Detroit reaped the rewards of that. He'll finish as one of the top players in his era and regradless of what you feel about him off the field (steroids, etc.) there is no denying what he has accomplished on it.

Absolutely not. This guy is the scariest hitter in the game when he's hot. Just looking at him flick that bat back and forth makes you believe he's gonna do something big. He can put an unbelievable drive on the ball with his quick, powerful swing. As a Yankees fan, I knew last year we would have to let him go, but I miss him in the lineup. He was a great hitter who was pretty consistent.

No way. Have you seen the numbers he's putting up this year. Plus he can still play the Outfield very well at his age. The Yankees let go of the wrong guy, they should have sent Matsui packing, Sheff would have given them more pop in the middle of the order and equal defensive ability. He makes the Tigers a true contender this year.

Not at all. He is one of the most consistant players in the game today. He hits 30+ hrs and 100+ RBIs per year. I would love to him in a dodger uniform again.

No, although his accomplishments in the steroid era are questionable, at best.
Plus, trouble seems to follow him. Even with the way he mashes, I don't think I would want him on my team. The Tigers are his seventh team, so it seems to me his act wears thin after a while, which might hurt his chances for the Hall of Fame.

Anyone who thinks that a guy who is on the road to 500 home runs is overrated should be forced to kiss Vince McMahon's ***.

No actually. Sure people think that he is out of his prime, but he is still a very powerful hitter and a nice addition to the Tigers

he's overrated. i mean, he has a great career, i mean HAD a great carrer, but he's ruined it. Steroids. that was what screwed his whole career, and he used to be talked about a lot on espn, but he's carrer's gotten to a point of the fact: no one gives broadcast news of him anymore since the steroids.
