The autumnal equinox (when day and night are equal length) is on Mar 21 in the southern hemisphere and Sept 21 in the north. In some places this date is the official start of Autumn and in others (such as Australia) the official date is Mar 1.

Depends on the North/South poles of the planet, Earth. But to know when exactly is autumn, I'll suggest you to open your room window and have a look at the trees planted along the streets. Observe the colour of the leaves. If most of the leaves kinda turn brownish-orange, it means autumn is approaching.

It is supposed to start on September 21st or 22nd. However, the summers around here usually last a month longer than that.

I know it officially starts in September, but I think of the seasons as:
Spring: April-May
Summer: June-August
Fall: September-October
Winter: November-March
We have really long winters here :-(
