This one's not even debatable, it's Stan Musial.........
Cardinals all time leaders....
5th in Batting avg - .331
1st in runs scored - 1949
1st in hits - 3630
1st in doubles - 725
1st in triples - 177
1st in HRs - 475
1st in RBIs - 1951
1st in BBs - 1599
7th in slugging - .559
Runner up: Rogers Hornsby, .359 career BA.
And I suppose an honorable mention to Lou Brock and Ozzie Smith.

Bob Gibson.
You can debate about who is the best position player, but for my money it's Gibson. Overall, Stan the Man had better teams around him. The Birdos of the 60's were nothing to sniff at, but they would have never won a pennant without Gibson. And talk about a money player: a 7-2 record with a 1.89 era in the World Series.
Also, don't forget the 1968 season: 22-9, 13 shutouts, a 1.12 era. He's put up great numbers for a career, but I think that's the season every pitcher must be measured by.
Simply sick! Oh, and did I mention 24 career HR as a pitcher?

Stan Musial is easily the best position player ever for the Cardinals, he quite possibly is one of the top 25 players of all time. Bob Gibson is their best pitcher ever. But without a doubt Ozzie Smith is and will always be the "face" of their organization.

Stan Musial is one of the greatest BASEBALL PLAYERS ever.
He won three MVP awards, played in 24 all-star games and had career ba of .331 with 475 HR.
Hands down the greatest Cardinal. If Pujols has about 10 more monster seasons, then he'd be in the equation. Gibson was certainly a great pitcher, but not one the greatest of all time. Musial is arguably one of the ten greatest players of all time.

1) Bob Gibson
2) Stan Musial
3) Rogers Hornsby
Ozzie Smith was the most overrated player ever. While he was a great defensive player and stole some bases. He was a very mediocre offensive player. A .262 career average and 28 Hrs.
His defense was the only reason he got in the HOF.

Are you kidding me? Hes only been in the majors for 8 years but Pujols has to be considered the best. His career average is around 330, he hits around 40 homers every year, alwasy a guarntee for 100 plus runs and runs batted in, walks more then he strikes out, and he staeals a few bases, Albert Pujols is the best Cardinals player ever period, and hes not even 30 yet!

Pretty much have to go with HOFer Stan Musial.
Other good choices: Rogers Hornsby, Albert Pujols, Ozzie Smith, Bob Gibson, Mark McGwire, and Lou Brock.
