BLESSED HERBS COLON CLEANSE is selling their products based on the claim that (a) it comes from natural sources (b) that it can cleanse the colon of waste which has stayed in the colon for a long time (c) that it has no side effects.
is their a medical basis for these claims?

These claims are nonsense.

First, the claim that because its a natural product its therefore good for you is silly. After all some of the strongest poisons out there are natural products for example cyanide.

Second, if you are eating a balanced diet with a good amount of fiber and plenty of water your colon will cleanse itself every day or so without any help.

Third, colon cleansing could cause illness. Your colon absorbs water and sodium from food/feces as it passes through it. This process helps maintain your body's fluid and electrolyte balance. So speeding up that process by colon-cleansing can cause dehydration and metabolic imbalances. Also, if you do this (colon cleansing) over a long period of time you can even develop health problems such as anemia, malnutrition and heart failure.

It's natural, therefore because of government restrictions not recognizing it as 'medicine'...it's not medically based. Does it work and has it helped people...you bet.

I have done a blessed herbs cleanse and while it did what it said it did...I prefer other ones out there. And contrary to what people say 'eat right' it will clean itself...not always true. I have always eaten organically and because of other health issues...my colon couldn't do the job on its own.

Always 2 sides to every story... good luck! :)

There are two guaranteed ways that I know of to 'cleanse your colon' and those are:

1. A 6 oz. bowl of thick, slow-cooked green pea soup every evening for a week;

. ~OR~

2. An 8 oz. bowl of thick, slow-cooked lentil soup every evening for a week.

Either of these is elegant and totally foolproof with a hunk of whole grain bread and six or eight glasses of water each day.

If you want to be absolutely, positively certain that you have the cleanest colon in the western hemisphere, add a week where you eat 2 bowls of soup per day. After 2 weeks of high-fiber, water-attracting, system-scouring soup, your colon will be so squeaky-clean, it will turn pea green a mere 4 hours after consuming pea soup on the first day of the third week, proof POSITIVE that you have cleared the colon of EVERYTHING that has ever been there.

This is infinitely more effective and 'cleansing' than any irrigation you can set up from the reverse end, as it flows naturally into the deep recesses (something BLESSED HERBS cannot claim) and uses four to six hours to hydrate, loosen, and pry old material from every nook and cranny of the colon, something water and herbs rushing in from the wrong direction could never do.

All the colon cleansers are scams. They are powerful laxatives that will dehydrate you which is the cause of the weight loss. Unless you have a medical condition, you don't need these products. Your doctor will let you know if you ever do.
